Hey, I've just been reading a few posts and they talk about slipping tranny between gears. I don't want to thread jack them, so I put up a new thread. My question is, how do you know/feel that the tranny is slipping? What is slipping exactly? Is it something that happens only in auto trannys?

Tranny slipping is when you accelerate and the RPM's climb, but the car doesn't move either at all or as fast as it should be for it's corresponding RPM.

Basically your engine sounds like you should be moving along and yet nothing really happens.

Manuals are quite that way. It would be like having the car in neutral, and stepping on the gas.

 

The clutch is what slips. Manuals have one clutch which is easy to replace just by removing the tranny, autos have several which require tearing down the transmission to replace.
