I am thinking of adding sidemarker lights to my '99 Maxima. Can anyone explain how I can do this myself and how I should wire them(tools,wires,etc). Also, does anyone have any pics of them on there Maxima? I would appreciate any help since I am very new to this kind of stuff. Thanks.

 

it involves cutting a hole in your fender. From there you have to run the wires and splice them into your turn signal wiring. There's alot more detail to go into, let me know if you really want to try. Since you said you're new, I would suggest having a shop do it. I do alot of work myself but it took me 30 min to work up the huevos to drill into my fender. All in all it shouldn't take a shop more than an hour so figure $60 plus parts. It took me about 1 1/2 hours my first time, about 45 min on the second (a brand new Civic SI, the guy almost started crying as the cutting wheel contacted his fender).

 

What did you use to drill the hole in the fender?

 

Then a little stone grinder to smooth out the cut. But you have to be careful not to burn the paint. Most little mistakes will be covered up by the sidemarkers themselves. Best recommendation it to put masking tape down before you start cutting to keep from chipping the paint. Just mark the holes over the tape. I also bought some primer in a bottle to put over the exposed metal.

 

Really easy to do it just takes a little working up (like remington said) before you're ready to cut into your baby.

I used a regular drill to do it. Just kept cutting the hole bigger and bigger and test fitting the sidemarker. It'll cover any mistakes you made (my hole sure isn't pretty - wow that sounds bad hehe).

All in all, I like it and would do it again - BUT! I put the sidemarker too low for my liking. If I had to do it again I would put it higher. Anyway, the pic isn't great, but it's all i have:

 

I'm wondering if There is any diffrence in doing this on a 3rd gen??? I'm also wondering where you get the side markers and how much they are???
