1st time Maxima owner..

Hey all..
i just graduated from forum 'bootcamp' and got my 15 posts under my belt..finally. that was kind of gay if you ask me, but its whatever this site has to do to get rid of spammers i guesse....

anyway, i'de like to take some time to introduce myself. i'm a die-hard Honda guy.....and for some reason, after i sold my 2000 civic ex coupe, instead of buying an Si or an RSX-s like i was 'supposed' to, i test drove an '02 maxima SE 6spd, and next thing i knew, the thing is sitting in my driveway later on that same day. Not sure what had happened, but something about it really appealed to me. anyway, i'm getting alot of crap from the honda community forums i'm part of and from some honda-buddies of mine here at home who i used to go to meets with for my decision in buying this car. but, i'm pretty sure i made the right choice and hopefully you guys can make me feel a little better about my somewhat "impulsive" decision.... i love the car, i mean, it feels great and i always knew that nissan builds one hell of a vehicle, and it pulls away from stop lights in ways my civic could only dream of...but, i'm gonna miss honda for a lil' while... let's see how nissan works out.

Welcome to a Maxima. I have been driving them since late 1999 with my 5sp 96 se and the new hotness a 03 6sp SE. Have no remorse, they are great cars and this is an excellent site.

thanx guys.. i've been caught staring at the car, and i must admit it is very attractive. and i freakin love the power..coming from owning a civic with a 1.6 liter sohc 4 banger, i'm really not used to the acceleration of this car and it almost almost gives me a hard-un.. thats probably why it sold itself to me.. haha.

but ya,, i'm gonna get some pictures posted up pretty soon.. i've been working very hard detailing it (it wasn't very clean when i took delivery of it, well, not to my standards anyway) and i want it looking its very best when i get around to snaping some pics of the car, which should be tonight sometime.

yaa, haha.. those honda-tech guys are rutheless....no doubt. mention anything else other than a honda, and they'll verbally rape you in every way imaginable..

i'm not sure exactly.....i was thinking about an intake, but i dont even know what the best intake for these engines are yet.....exhaust of course...and whatever the basic essential engine mods that most people do first, is what i'm interested in doing. Also, i'de like to work on the audio system as well... the Bose system that is in the car right now sounds allright, but the volume doesnt go past 31....and that isn't loud enough for me at times. i'm sort of deaf...so i need something that booms. also the factory deck doesnt play MP3 disks and i have a ton of those and the 6 disk changer only wants to load 5 cd's for some reason it wont load the sixth cd.. the stereo is just gonna have to go..i heard it's tricky to change out a Bose system.. do you have to change everything?

Right there with ya partner. I just bought my first Maxima and I'm loving the thing. I traded my 04 Accord 4cyl for my 07 SE and the only thing I can say is I'm gonna get into some trouble with this bad boy. The power is just plain stupid for a 6cyl family sedan.

You did make the right choice. If you take care of it, you wont have any major problems with the engine; (Assuming it was good to begin with, as with all engines) more than a honda engine anyway.

If you keep getting **** from your honda buddies, then challenge them to a little test of mettle. Anything less than a b14 (?) swap in a crx you'll murder them. The upper powerband from 3.5-4k to redline is a damn beast. Good buy, and welcome.

*I'd use the stickeys and search function before asking any questions about intakes (especially!), exhaust, headers and springs/struts. We're not as bad as honda owners, but people will flame you for asking those types of questions without doing the research first.

** I'd start with a Berk Technologies WAI, it's a great mod, gives it a nice snarl in the upper RPM's. It's like $130, a little loss of low-end torque, but it more than makes up for it in the top-end hp.

Cattman Performance has a sale going until tomorrow. Nab a full exhaust and be happy with the overall best(there are others, warpspeed, stillen, frankencar) but Brian Catts, the owner, is a great guy, and knows how to make a superior-quality exhaust.

Intakes is something of a crap-shoot imo for the 5th genners. the Injen routes air from behind the radiator, and pretty much all the current good setups are home-built. something good for the money is definately a Berk or JWT POPcharger. You're prolly better off with looking up some NissanWorks Phenolic Intake Spacers. they create real usable power and increase the efficiency of the stock system.

The most worthwhile mods around here are related to the suspension mostly. SFCs and Sway Bars top the list imo.

Do lotsa research, read every sticky in the 5th gen area, and you should be able to make ALOT of well-informed decisions without too much need to wait for someone to reply (most of the time will be a sarcastic first reply anywho)

oh, and welcome to the .ORG and the Maxima community!

thanx appreciate the support...(well thats not surprising since i'm in a maxima forum) but still...we can all agree its a sweet ride...and what better way to christin my new maxi than to get pulled over for speeding, right?? ya just got pulled over literally like 20 minutes ago for overtaking someone too "quickly" and "wrecklessly" according to the cop..well the "constable" its what they're called here in houston. he was in an unmarked 07 chevy tahoe on his way home, and he told me since he's on his way home he doesnt really feel like goin thru the ticketing process..and he let me off with a verbal warning. there was like 2 tons of relief, since a ticket is the LAST thing i need right now...
anyway, this car is gonna get me in trouble......bad start, haha.. but i still love it...just gotta control the throttle a lil'...

Aaawwee your maxi is a baaaaad girl very baaaad girl

cmon man u know better then that, trust me nice and slow and smooth is how a good way to enjoy ur new ride, save the speeding for the track...

but .. i know u were not speeding and the cop , sorry constable , doesnt know what he is talking about.

BTw isnt he wasting his time pulling u over for no reason ? its not like he will know who u r and that "next time" he will punish u instead of now ?

that makes no cop sense

Well, it kind of does make sense, he could've been as drunk as a depressed priest, or he could've been stoned out of his gourd. Once he saw that he wasn't any of those things, he just gave a warning. If he were drunk, then the cop would've arrested him. He just didn't want to waste his time with tickets, unless he was going to get an arrest as well. Cops get bonuses for things like felony stops, DWI, drug possesion etc. At least they do around here......

yaaaa.. i know. but i wasnt drunk ( i can be pretty stupid sometimes..but i'm not that stupid) anyway i was driving slow all day long today.. haha, its funny how you drive really slow for a while after being pulled over and then you return to your old bad habits after a while. but anyway, thanks for the replies, i'll be posting pics up pretty soon.

a maxima and a civic are not even the same class of car. i'm not saying this because i'm a fanboy it just really isn't. v6 accord is comparable or an avalon. regardless excellent choice. and incase you didn't know with an intake, headers, catback, and a AFC w/tune you can run mid 13's. not bad for a 4DGG! good luck and happy modding!

I just bought my first Maxima in November...I've had five other cars (yes, I'm only 20 but don't ask) and the Maxima is the best I've had. I plan on driving it until it dies.

I don't think I'll ever buy anything but another Nissan.

Hi. I'm also new to the forum, since I just bought my '03 Maxima SE a month ago. I was also kind of a Honda guy (thanks to an 89 Acura Legend with 248k mi., which proved to be a very reliable car with good performance for its age). But after test drove this Max, I fell in love with the power of the VQ engine!

I will definitely keep this car until it dies.

Heck, this car is faster than my mom's 96 Mustang GT!

In my '99 Maxima GLE I have the average lever on the left side of the steering wheel that i use to turn on the light. Normally you have one **** that you turn on that lever, but there is two *****, the one closest to the steering wheel being the fog light control. Here is a link to the 1999 Nissan Manual in case you need to look at it.

http://www.courtesyparts.com/nissan-...san-Maxima.pdf

If you need one for a different year try this site:

http://www.courtesyparts.com/

Now, if you already figured out how to turn the fog lights on and they are not working, check to make sure that the lens or bulbs for your fog light is cracked. Also, if it is just one side, look and see if the lights that go on your front doors turn on as well. If they don't then there may be a connection but i'm not sure. I hope I was at least able to help. Good luck.
