I just found a 97 maxima transmission with Locking Differential. This means limited slip differential right ? It has 65,000 miles on it and its for 800. Is it okay to buy a tranny with 65,000 miles on it ? I need some advice quick, because I want to buy this ASAP if its okay to buy.

Only Canadian Maximas and I30s (the few that came with 5-speeds) have LSD trannies.

It *sounds* like it's one, but you may ask them for the part number and call a Canadian dealership to make sure....

Manuals should last "forever". But as with everything, it depends on how "beaten" it was, whether they bothered changing the gear fluid, etc.....

Why? That shouldn't stop you. 60 to 70k is probably my limit mileage-wise as any trannies with more miles wouldn't be worth a look.

They don't sound bad if they are REALLY LSDs........

If you want to go open diff, then I would hold out for a 5-speed from a wreck (newer year, probably lower miles, etc.).....

mmm, I juss got my 4th Trans and it turned out to be NON LSD again. If i saw that deal for $800 id ****** it up right away. Even if i wasnt gonna use it for myself, pick it up and sell it. Make sure it is LSD for sure tho. All the yards tell me mine is LSD for sure but it turns out not to be. The Left Axle seal is huge, much bigger to the right axle seal, Thats a quick way to verify if its LSD. If the seals are close to the same diameter, you got yourself a non LSD. hehe

Don in Texas did a Automatic LSD swap, shoot him a PM and I'm sure he'll give you some pointers. I think Keven97se did a 5-speed LSD swap into his max, but his was 5-speed to begin with.

Good luck!
