I took a road trip with a friend who brought along his Cobra and the thing was going off left and right and did not go off until we passed cop cars. I would not spend any money on a radar detector unless it was a decent one. Otherwise you are lulled into a false sense of security or the thing goes off so much that you ignore it. I have heard god things about the BEL, but I think it was a model that cost more than $80.

It's better to spend a little more cash and get a good one. If it saves you one icket, it will more than offset the money saved on a ticket and insurance.

You can do better by buying the Bel 980 used off of EBAY. Turst me that if you put $100 down now you will want something better in less than a year. I would try to get something off of EBAY if I were you.

I got the BEL 936 after doing a lot of research... its only 140 so I suggest you pay more of wait until you have the money... I can say that the bel 936 works well.. after all I did spent a little too much of my 1020 miles this last weekend well about the limit
