I was driving home from a friend's house tonight and i had a big problem resulting in a 15 minutes ride from 1/2 a mile away. It began slowly on the way to my friends house and then got stronger now. I am thinking it might be that I ran out of gas because i am running on E but i dont know if this is what that would feel like. I can start the car just fine but then it has trouble keeping up the RPM's and once i put it into drive and step on the gas it sometimes moves and sometimes doesnt. When it does move it just jumps forward and stops it wont just drive forward in one normal motion. I also hear some noices from below the main cabin when i press the gas down and the car wont move. it sort of sounds like something is hitting down there but i dont know what. Could this be the gas running out or is it a more serious problem. I can barely even drive.

i'm no Daniel B Martin, but you could try putting some gas in and see if it helps.

could be the fuel pump or filter

I had similar problems, and it ended up being my fuel pump. Granted, these problems did not really start, the way that you describe it, until it was too late, and time for a new pump altogether, but you may want to look into that. It may also be a clogged fuel filter. How long has it been since you had it changed? You may want to also make sure that all of the fittings/hoses are still hooked up, as if even one is unhooked, it can make the car act crazily, unlike the simpler engines of yore that were not dependant an sensor readings to run optimally. I hope this helps, and you should never run your car out of gas, you can seriously damage your fuel system if your run it bone dry. Try keeping the fuel level at the minimum of 1/4 tank, though being poor makes it difficult, I know, but I try to keep it above E at all times. Let me know how this works out for you, and good luck.
