It's a Nissan R390 GT Car. They race at Le Mans and such.

If I wanted to be cheap I would have bought a TL!

I want the best, and my baby only gets the best.

even though this debate has raged on forever

My opinion is buy the premium because it's so cheap. That logic is starting to falter because gas has come down in price lately. When regular got ridiculous, ie 1.73 per gallon, I saw super for only 1.82. Why bother to save the 9 cents, percentage-wise it's like 5%, might as well pump super. But now since regular is only 1.41, super is 1.59, and that's 11%. As the price of gas comes down, the diff between regular and super grows.

Anyway, here's some food for thought. I told my friend how the Maxima says regular may be used in both the manual and the filler door. He has a 1999 540i, and has used regular since he got the car brand-new. I told him I thought BMW REQUIRES premium fuel, not like Nissan who RECOMMENDS it. He said as far as he's concerned it's a pile of hors*****, and the BMW runs fine on regular. I don't know if he's right or not, but he's betting a 50,000 car that he's right. And he's been doing it for almost 2 years.

The way I see it, the more money one has, the more one watches the expenses. It's those that don't have money that don't care about how they spend it. Blue collars quite often leave very generous tips, I got a buddy who consistently tips between 30 and 60%, and if the waitress is cute he tips 100% or more. But then again he has no money saved up. Martin Brodeur, Cup winning goalie for the Devils leaves no tip from what I hear. The premium vs. regular debate is a personal choice I think, just like tipping.

here's a question...

doesn't gas get contaminated after mixing all those different brands?

ex: go to mobil one week than exxon the next, and using premium one time, and regular the next

i know theirs no real danger, just wondering.

The way I read it was that the VQ in Nissan Maxima, 5th gen, never owned any other, is a high compression engine. It recommends using high octane gas because of the high compression. High octane gas doesn't spontaniously combust under high pressure as will a low octane gas would. It is not like it happens every stroke of the cylinder, it it can and most likely will happen. The sunco down the road from my house sells 98 octane race fuel, they have this because of the "race cars" with super high compression ratios need the high octane. I think it prolly only really matters if you drive the car hard, normal put-putting around driving doesn't really matter too much, but heck, we have Maximas, we need to drive hard.
