I put a CAI from Cattman on my 95 SE this weekend. It was a fairly straightforward operation, took me about 45 minutes. The only difficulty was that the temp sensor mounting holes needed to be drilled out to a larger size. Perhaps the holes it came with were pilot holes and the final drilling was never done?

One question I have for you guys that already have a CAI is about how loud it should be. It really sounds great at about mid throttle, but at WOT it is incredibly loud, reminds me of when I put straight pipes on my Triumph 650 (yes, I'm older than a lot of you guys here). Is this normal?

It's the loudest? His only mod is CAI. Wouldn't CAI + other mods make the intake louder?

A free flowing muffler will make your car a bit louder too, depending on which muffler you go with. Some are louder than others.

It's loud.
And with the windows open and a little bit of gas you can hear a little whistling sound, that's normal too.

Enjoy

Hmm, did you compare this Cattman CAI's loudness to a Place Racing CAI? I have a PR CAI on order. I still can't find any mp3s or any samples of what a CAI would sound like. The links listed on FAQs and other assorted places all have broken MP3 links.

Though I am looking forward to installing my PR CAI.

would you settle for an mp3 of a PR Cai in an Altima? I just installed it yesterday.

loudness...

i would imagine that the loudness of both would be about the same if not exactly the same seeing that the tubing for each CAI is the same...what could possibly make the difference??? mine is from cattman and im waiting on the install...still have to find a 3.25 bit for the hole saw...damn home depot didn't have one...

With the hole saw, pilot hole, and a lubricant the hole is easy to cut.
Overall the install is easy, and I even have more pieces than most people cause I have the CAI adapter kit for a stillen intake.

I didn't find it difficult at all, but I've got a lot of experience with shade tree mechanicing. I used to own an air-cooled Vanagon that would drop valve seats every other summer. Got to where I could pull the engine in 40 minutes without help, if I wasn't in a hurry.

The only real difficulty I had was with the temp sensor location, which had to be modified a bit with larger mounting holes. No biggie. Also, since the location on the tube is curved, and the sensor has a flat mounting surface you have to use some silicone sealant to make sure you get an airtight fit. Oh, I guess there was a bit of difficulty getting the large diameter rubber tube onto the maf sensor flange, but it eventually goes on if you work at it.

Do yourself a favor and get some 5/8ths and 3/4ths ID heater hose to replace the stock hoses that connect to the pipe between the maf sensor and the throttle body. The stock hoses are only just barely long enough, and I didn't like the sharp bends I had to put in them.

Like someone else said, the hole saw has a tendency to catch and torque your arm if you're not careful. Also, I used a 3.5" hole saw since Home Depot didn't have the 3.25" saw. I don't see how the larger hole is detrimental at all.

After driving the car a few days and getting used to the sound, I really like it. I turned a few heads driving up to work this morning when I opened up the throttle a bit ...
One guy asked if I was turbocharged, heehee.
