I would say a car under 7.5 seconds would be fast for the average driver. Even an auto Max with the way it puts its power down can be dangerously fast(ie; cRedrum's incident).

My tribute to the Jetta people,

Most any NA 4 cylinder owner will find our cars VERY fast, but the funny thing is that we don't consider them fast ourselves. I wonder what 911 owners consider fast and slow.

Few of the guys on the VW forum said it correctly, it depends on what class the car is in. Most cars can go fast what most aren't quick. Even my car isn't a racer, I still consider my car to be quick and I have driven "fast" cars.
My truck could go fast but it was a dog getting there.
