My alternator = dead
Not covered under my warranty so how much do these badboys run? I refuse to goto a nissan dealership because they f*cked with my friends 240sx. So I was thinking of bringing it to my parents friends shop... anyone wanna tell me what I should expect to pay?
expect to pay close to 300 for the alternator then the labor to put it in... mine was about 280 i think and i got it from the dealership with swapping mine... they charge you like $75 more and you return your old one for the money back... my mechanic charged me about $80 to install it if i remember correct... also you should change the alternator belt while its off to save the stress in the future... my belt had the little cracks in it so we replaced mine but i guess it couldnt hurt to replace it even if its not cracked thats your choice... let me know how it turns out, peace
When I had my alternator replaced under warranty, I sneaked a look at the paperwork as they were signing me out, and noticed the total charge the dealer gets for alternator diagnosis and replacement is $450 for parts and labor. The Maxima has a particularly difficult alternator to remove. It requires the removal of the radiator fan shroud and AC compressor to access the alternator.
