Wow, so much for peace and harmony around here. As I've done before in another post, let me set the record straight about moderation and the goal of it here....

The goal of the moderator is to:
- contain and guide the direction of conversation

- lock and/or delete posts which contradict or conflict with the User Signup Agreement

- point newcomers (with what we all would call "newbie" questions) to the correct resource to find the answer

- report users who may be consistently violating the guidelines of the User Signup Agreement

That's basically it as far as the duties of the moderator.

Now, as far as policies on moderating posts, I think we'll just get in the habit of deleting (vs. editing) posts of a questionable nature. No sense in leaving garbage around that just clutters up the system. Therefore, going forward, if your message is deemed "questionable" by the moderators (and yes, that's up to them to deem it that way), it will be deleted. If a moderator determines that the majority of a thread is valuable, and just a small number of the posts in the thread are junk, only the questionable posts should be deleted. If the majority of the posts in a thread are junk, then the entire thread should be deleted.

Yes, I'll be putting more moderators in place when the new forum upgrade is complete toward the beginning of next month. If you have disputes about any moderator, please e-mail the moderator and copy me (jamie@maxima.org) on the e-mail so I can know what's going on.

If anyone has questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Whats it take to be a moderater? What are the requirements? It seems to me once in a while some moderaters will be rather partal, which seems counter productive.

Anyone picked to moderate is going to have opinions, it's more important that they step in where there's a problem and close threads, move threads, talk to members privately if necessary, etc.

No we shouldn't, because being a moderator isn't a popularity contest. Such an election would be.

it's cool how modertators here don't in a way scream at members. I think everything is still under some control, alot of fellow members try to step in and put things in order.

Question for you: When is the content on the main page going to change? Kind of old and outdated with events from June and July on there. Almost September. Will it change soon? Keep up the good work.
