anyone made a custom cai
#2
Hey im thinking about making one too. I think they are basicly a pipe, with a hole(s) for the sensor(s) and a filter on one end and not one on the other.. Sounds pretty simple to me. I was day dreaming about it today at boring *** school. You could just get some pvc pipe that is the right size. I think 3.5" is about right. Cut it to proper length and angles by taking measurments from your car. Then find a filter for it, figure out how to hook it all up and cut a hole in your wheel well, drop it in there and try it out. What could it hurt?? IF it sucks just buy a real one plus you will already have the hole cut!

i was thinking about going down throught the front of my max. like right above my front spoiler. but i want to have my cone filter inside the car. not inside the car but inside the engine bay. i do not want water to get inside the engine. i understand that if you have the pipe sloping staight up then go to the intake manafold then that will be ok. but the only cold air intakes i have seen have the filter on the end of the pipe or they go throught the wheel well. i am thinking about have a big scoop on the front of the car. is this possible?

Then that isnt even a cold air intake because it will be taking in hot air. You might be describing a ram air intake.
They are usualy outside the car and air flows in them as the car is moving. Water is more of a problem with a low mounted ram air than with a CAI. out of all the people on the board with one i dont think one person has had a water problem with their CAI
