Hey, all. I'm wondering if anyone in the Cleveland area, currently, or otherwise, could give me the names of some decent Nissan mechanics. I'm heading down there sometime to buy a 95 SE 5spd, but I'd like to have it checked out first.
Then to anyone, what are some general things I (or my mechanic) should check out before buying the car?
Things I can eyeball myself by popping the hood, trunk, dash, etc?
Thanks a lot, hope to get some response soon (It's Maxima time!)

Where in Cleveland are you?

I've been going to Galati's in North Olmsted for years...he's great. Besides, he races his S4 and wins his races...isn't that a tell-tale sign?

Even if you don't have your Max yet, we'd love to see you at the upcoming meet:

Hey, hope that goes well for you.
At least for my car, haven't had any major problems. They always say that the starter is a sore spot. Check and see if it starts up on the first turn. Also inquire whether scheduled maintenance items have been performed. You do those and the Max will be pretty much trouble free unless you are unlucky. On my 95MaxSE, got lots of paint chips on the hood, the bumper paint was peeling some or has dulled, the doors can get stuck if not greased up real good, and the dash and A-pillars were squeeking until I weatherstripped it to death--but these things are pretty understandable. Definitely write down the VIN# and get a carfax report before sealing the deal. Depending on mileage, you might have to figure in new brakes. Also when driving, see if you get signs of rotor warpage when braking. The clutch is quirky if you haven't driven a max 5speed. A honking noise engaging 1st, sometimes 2nd is normal, as is the occasional clutch chatter. You might have to figure in a new clutch, depending on mileage and how the car was driven. Also check to see the emissions (E-check) results--they are required here every two years for a '95 Max when you renew your yearly license. Hopefully the owner has service records to verify that the car was well cared for. It is a great car though...
