I've been wanting a conversion for a while now. I went to the transmission shop and gave the guy Harold's instructions on how to convert the Auto-->5spd.

Anyways, I finally got back ahold of him today, and he told me that he'd include some parts and that it would be over 1000.00 dollars. (Not including the Tranny itself, and other parts ? He didn't specify and was in a rush).

That is alot of money for me, and just to convert it. W/that money I could custom buy a dual exhaust like Kirk's(1/3there2/3togo), and a y-pipe, or a lowering kit. And more things.

I need everyone's opinions !!! I don't know if it's really worth it or not, or if I should spend it on other Mods.

Auto to Manual Conversion, or Modding My automatic. What would you do ?

well think of it this way, with a good driver, you could get every N/A commercial mod for you auto and prolly still not be as fast as a stock 5-spd with a good driver.

Wow, I didn't expect you to say that, DMB. Are you considering the conversion, too ?

My friend just got a '95 Se (same as mine) except all stock and a 5spd tranny. Really has punch in second gear.

But there was 3 adults in his car when he was driving so it wasn't as fast as when he drives it alone. It didn't feel a whole lot different, I just gotta drive one myself.

anyone else?

IF you think the 5 speed's 2nd gear is strong, wait till you feel third gear. That thing is amazing.

maybe. my tranny isn't gonna last forever and if i can find a wrecked 5-spd and get someone to help me do it then it won't be much more than an auto rebuild. I'd be low 13's easily as a 5-spd on a goood day with these mods.

..

As far as performance goes, the auto->5speed conversion will be better for your times than anything else for the same price (cept maybe NOS) .. However, your resale value on your car will be destroyed .. Depends on if you plan to resell it, or keep it forever.

Sup deezo. I am pro Auto I am not certain I will do this, but manually shifting is fun. TRUST me, I would miss alot from my auto. And would not welcome some attributes of a stick.

With the new technology they have today, it won't be long before auto's are just as fast as sticks. Take a look at the Acura TL's...Tiptronic...5 speeds...they make the maxima's automatic look pathetic. Good thing our engine is so well built.

I love how my automatic relaxes me. Especially in the mourning when it's 7am and i'm not in the mood to **** around with shifting or "racy driving". I don't know if I could cope with concentrating on shifting at those hours of the mourning.

I am tryin' to gather all the info I can. I am looking forward going to meet my friend again and driving his stick max.

in my opionion, i think its just more problems..auto to stick? yea, i would love to do this if my tranny goes out Again.. and yes again.. "no more neutral DROPS!!hehe thats the fun part of it.. well, consider getting a valve body mod from don in TExas. As for the acuras, they are pretty darn fast, and the maxima lag in gear.. takes forever to shift to next..

ARE U NUTS

It sounds fun converting your car to Manual but do you realize that when cars are built, they are essentially built differently from the START depending on whether they are going to be M/T or A/T...it's not a last minute thing that they decide.... OK cars A - C are A/T and cars D-F are M/t.

I think it would cause too many problems and it's a waste of money. Go crazy modding everything else instead.

Yes it's a waste of money to just do it for no reason, but if you can find a wrecked maxima and get the parts for like 500, then get a ACT clutch and someone to do the labor for a decent price, it's possible to stay around 2K. It's costs about that much for a auto tranny rebuilb. i am considering it, but only when my tranny dies.

Deezo

I think i'll stay automagic. Deezo made me think of my old debating days...

With a G I could do so many little things to my max that i've been wantin' to do.(Red/Clears, VB, Lowering, Exhaust, body kit, y-pipe, cat, uhhhyea)

Besides...manual shifting the auto, baby. I love doin it, and it's safe as long as you dont redline it.(So I Hear)

1st gear ='lotta power. I can only imagine shifting a VB Upgraded auto...Mmmmmm.

Anyways, Deezo, slap me if I ever bring this foolish conversion up again.

i'm doing conversion and i recommend it too. I was thinking of modding auto instead (cold air intake, y-pipe, and this new cheap kit that just came out) all this would be under 1,000 and my car would look and feel hella good but nothing feels better than throwing your car in second....

and then chirping third with the ACT I'm also going for the conversion. I dont care bout my resale value, I like the car too much, so im planning on keping it. everytime i ride with my friends, they all have 5 spds, and it is just so much fun!! look A HLH, his car runs great, and has been for over 6 months with the conversion. It makes sense that the cars were built different from the start, and maybe a few vacuum lines are different lik the auto kick down switch or ewhat not, but if its worked for Aznstevie, and HLH, and prolly a few otheres, Its gonna work for myself and meccanoble. I cant wait until I get mine done, I literally think of how my car will be more than i think a girfriend if i had one! call me sick, but thats how it is

You could always sell you auto (after bringing it back to stock) and but a 5-speed of the same year and mileage. This would be alot cheaper than doing the conversion as long as you negotiate the right deal. I sold my 2K1 auto and bought a 2K1 5 speed and all it cost was TTL - about $1300.

This would be a lot cheaper than doing the conversion, as long as you negotiate the right deal adn sell your car privately - not trade it in! Although I have to agree with the auto guys in that you can esily mod an auto to be as fast as a stock 5 speed. I remember I was a little disappointed when I first test drove the 5 speed, it was totally stock and it didn't seem at all faster than my modded auto.
But now after the mods.......well the smile says its all.

Bro, converting will cost me $120 LESS than that

Like I say I have the hook-ups.

But that's TTL (tax, title, license) on the price for a low mileage 2K1. It would be less on a higher mileage 4th gen since it'll be priced less than a newer 2K1. And you wouldn't have to worry about the re-sale issues ect.

Craig - just do it man! You've been talking about this forever! Believe me you won't regret it. In the mornings when you want to take it easy, shifting is a breaze (just put MT-90 in the tranny).

Sleepermax: I will bro. This is my first car and I plan on keeping it through highschool and college. I pay for all this myself too and buying a car is outta the question.

The reason why I haven't already converted is becuase I STILL have to sell my Infinity Perfect subs/box, and Cbr2 hasn't found a tranny in an auction yet.. I hope he's still willing to help me!! Like I said I like in Central Florida, and grew up in Jax, becuase my dad's navy base (NAS JAX) was there. So he knows it like the back of his hand.

Stay auto. Get a Supercharger or the VB Mod. You are set. No need to become a manual ...

gold trim was hot **** on a pearl white car. and the 95=96 M A X I M A was so ugly but yeah nos was fun when i could hook up. 14.2 at 102+MPH remember that. if i only could have stayed hooked up 13's would have been easy.
