I'm just curious, how hard is it to install this? I know i have to drop the pan and all. There are just too many things to worry about. Who here has done it themselves? Any help would be great. Hey... does anyone know Don in Texas e-mail? I need to order myself a VB Upgrade so I can feed my trans some steriods.

Not very hard, but time consuming. Unhook a harness. Drop the pan and take few bolts out. Tips: 1. Group all the same length bolts togther and put them in ziplock bags. 2. Get an new tranny pan gasket and 4-5 quarts of ATF.

As long as you have a place to work and some free time on your hands it shouldn't be too much of a problem to upgrade. I actually swapped mine out in my dorm parking lot last semester in about 3 hours. Add another hour if it's your first time doing it. I'd also like to add to Tony's tips: 3. Lots and lots of brake cleaner! About 3-4 cans should be ok.

Complete Novice

I know nothing about cars and I did it fine. I actually used 8 cans of brake cleaner but then I sprayed every single part liberally before reinstalling it. I used 3 cans alone on the tranny pan. Don says that too much is not enough. The sandwich bag idea is exactly right - keep all bolts of similar length together. It's not too bad. Once you get over the fear factor of taking out a major component of your car, it should be fine.

So i'm assuming that i would have to remove mine and send it out? I'm not too sure about leaving my trans open like that for a couple of days if not a week. I can always put the pan back i guess?

If you have a 4th gen - looks like you do, then Don has some available and you would have to schedule a time to do the swap (he mails you a vb after you pay - you swap yours out and mail him back yours) - he needs yours back in 3 days. Otherwise, leaving your tranny open isn't that big of a deal if you have access to a garage (I did and it was fine). Otherwise, the best thing is to put a CLEAN (sprayed with lots of brake cleaner) tranny pan back on.

Not hard, just messy. Need a ton of carb cleaner and lots of ATF though. Cheston did it on bl97's car (I mostly stood next to them and took pics ) -- just REALLY messy....
