You will have to type in exactly what you are looking for with the exact spelling.

looking for y-pipes?

this is a tuff one.. the person could have it typed y pipe or Y-pipe...

so you tried y pipe

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

no that doesn't work.. but look at this..

trying pipe by itself.. boom

http://forums.maxima.org/search.php?...der=descending

hits galore...

The database searches for the exact way the searched word is typed by each user.. it is not going to figure it out for you...

another example..

you tried CAI but CAI is not a word..

but then you try again using intake

http://forums.maxima.org/search.php?...der=descending

its pretty much common sense.. you just have to type exactly what you want...

The search function isn't the best since it still gives a WIDE range of hits, most of them having nothing you're looking for. Due the speed issues, most people don't have time to sit & wait for the pages to load when there 2000-4000 hits on a subject you're trying to find.

Sprint,

I've given up on the common sense approach to text strings. Face it, the search function:

- doesn't work
- makes knowledge your anti-drug
- only works for the following members:

Jeff92se
bill99gxe
Shingles
SprintMax
Daniel B. Martin (that's right folks, it works for the one you heed as the Maxima God)
others, but you already know who you are

- is biased because it doesn't work for members who have "Lurker" or "Newbie" as their present status
- sucks
- is broken
- doesn't work because it's all bill99gxe's fault

Again, there are simple, easy ways to get around this through the common sense use of text strings.

ALL, and I repeat, ALL useful sticky posts in the forums I moderate (especially those in the 4th gen forums) were generated by using the search function. It's actually scary how much info is in this site and the redundancy to which it is posted.

As for the search function, you've just got to be patient and be willing to try different strings of words. It seriously works most of the time.

Search does work most of the time, but if you are a lazy and or stupid it doesn't work.
