i just bought a new maxima gxe, and it has about 2500 miles and an automatic transmission. I race my friends and their crappy cars and THEY BEAT ME, even though i have much more power than them. why??

what happened to the 6.7sec 0-60???

If you bought the car based on magazine times, well sorry you did the wrong thing. If you expect this to be a sports car, again you bought the wrong thing. It's got four doors, it's buld as a family sedan, and well it's quick. Fast and quick are different. It's quick for a 4 door family sedan. Notice how I keep using the words family sedan?

Plus you got an automatic. automatics are a slower... by a lot.

6.7?

That's a magazine tested time for the 5-spd. You have the automatic...surely you know that automatics are slower(from ~0.5 to ~1.0 seconds slower). Time to mod up...SC, y-pipe, cai, blah, blah...we need a FAQ.

What kind of cars were you exaclty racing? I don't have trouble beating MAJORITY of cars i race. The 0-60 in 6.7 secs is for the 2k max in stick. The autos are rated anywehere from 7.5-8.5 up to 60. It just depends on how well you can drive it.

my friends buicks, passats, and almost (they keep up till 35) QX4's.

is there a special way to work the gas or to time the shifts to get the fastest 0-60 with an automatic?

if your not winding your rpm's out, then might want to try shifting the auto manually. or get some mods on that thing

Maybe you just need a tune-up. A QX4 has no business keeping up with you, even stock with an automatic.

Ok I have a 96 SE auto, and i haven't had any problems with it being to slow. When stock I took it to an 1/8 mile track and my best time was 10.08 at about 72mph. I put it in in low 1 then upshift to low 2 right at redline then do the same into drive. I raced a stock 95 SE 5spd once and I wanted to see if I could hang with him since he was suppose to beat me by 1 sec. I ended up white smoking my tires all the way through first gear, and we did not get a chance to line it up again. Anyway, Does anyone have any stock 1/8 mile times they can post to compare different years and auto's to 5spd's??????????

Sounds like someone has been had! There is no way in hell an auto max short of full bolt ons and/or supercharger/NOS is gonna get a 6 sec 0-60. If your stock its more like 7.8-8.3 for a GXE depending on options. Also what kind of gas do you run?

You shouldn't have got the automatic! Although, the automatic isn't as slow as some of the other automatics on other cars. Just in case for anyone who think about getting a Maxima, get the 5spd.! I continue to regret having an automatic.
