HERE'S THE KICKER: Don's Maxima has over 100k and STOCK internals through and through. Hey Don, maybe the ported exhaust manifolds are coming through for ya in conjunction with the nitrous?!

VERY NICE!
The exhaust manifolds are on the new engine. He ran with his old one.

If my calculations are correct he is pushing 370-400 HP with the NOS, to break to 11's you would have to get over 400HP down (assuming the car weighs 3400lbs), that's petty impressive in FWD, good luck today Don....

They're on the old one, the new one is still at the machine shop. I know because he and I installed them. It was not fun!

sprint is correct.. the max was a college car.. come spring its time to play with the 400HP beast.. anyone else think a dinan blown m5 might be fun?

as far as proving myself as some asked.. exactly why would i need to do this? i don't doubt myself, or my car.. there are people on this very board who have seen my car in action and realize what it is capable of..

anyway.. congrats don.. 12.2 is a real good run

Here, put this in your formula: The car only weighs 2875 pounds.

I didn't run today, it started raining about 6am this am, and didn't stop until 11:30 or so, even in Baytown. I didn't take the risk of trailering my car 50 miles in the rain (through Houston)....not for $100 in prize money.

Adam and Katie left last night around 11:30pm, Adam decided to go to work, I don't blame them we had enough fun on Saturday. I got completely cooked, and the heat just killed yesterday. I assumed the same today, but at 6 this morning it started raining (I covered my window Adam), and I figured that was it.

To answer a few questions: The smaller wheels are 15x8, on drag radials (first run, tires were BRAND NEW). Same basic set-up, some minor changes. New motor in still on the shelf, this motor has over 110,000 on it. Nothing big to speak of, just made sure it was in perfect running condition before it left the house.

Its all in the preparation I guess.

Damn, Russ, you've always been so defensive.

I read the whole thread bro, there's no talk of why the trap speeds are low. Unless you're trying to tell me the 15in. front slicks had anything to do with it...which it doesn't. Just because the front wheels are an inch smaller the the rear is not going to make the trap speeds low. I'm just curious, why doesn't Don tell us, not Russ. Or throw up the time slip.

Don...
could you do me a favor and list your timeslip...
if you can scan it just list:
60'
660'
1000'
1320'
(E.T. & MPH)

I just want to compare it to my old civic slips...
Cuz I ran mid 11's...but my 1/8th mi MPH was 104mph!!

Just curious.

Thats me, defensive Russ.

I found the posts about why. Because I posted them I will repeat it again. The reason why his trap was slow, is because his tranny was shifting early for some reason out of a gear or 2, and he isn't sure why. He was going to manually shift it today, but it got rained out.

Also the tires DO make a difference in trap. The smaller the wheel and tire combo will help you accel off the line faster because the engine can accelerate the front tires quicker (spin them faster), but once you hit higher top speed, it will not be as fast since most cars do not have a great accel at that great of a speed. Don can explain this much better than I can since he has the experience, but I know this is a cheating way to get better times in the drag world.

Are they running the 3.125" pulley or the 3" one?

I dont mean to take sides or anything but Russ is right. The rims & tire size play a big rold in trap speeds. In a earlier post i stated why i thought it was so low.

People in dragging use smaller tires to get up to speed faster but htis lowers yout trap speed. The bigger the rim the better top end you will have and thus higher speed.

I also thought that having a high stall torque converter had something to do with it. It puts you into your power band and you launch as fast as a 4wd car.

Please dont take this as a flame. Just clarification.

Just remember, people don't say I have a 110 MPH car, they say I have a 12 second car, the time is by far the more important of the two.

I believe Don's got an I30 LSD tranny to give him better traction on launch. All the torque down low and the smaller tire/wheel combo is giving him incredible launching, but the wheel's will hurt his overall trap speed. Don't forget gear ratio.... he's a 4spd. The engine is working harder to keep him going faster.

Nice run Don...
hope to see you break it.

As far as automagics ruling...I wonder how fast Don's car would be in 5-speed form.

Hate to say it, but as the times get lower and lower, the automatics actually give you better times. Look at all the sub 10 second cars, either automatics or air shifted.

I know what you mean but first I should say its great that Don and Phil are doing great things for the Max at the track and I give them both tons of credit. They don't leech on others to go fast.
Although I think its great that they are getting fast numbers, its dumb to only "sweat" Don's performance and say he is the fastest when people have seen Phil run. I don't know Phil or never chatted with him but from the threads that I have read with his name attached and from what reputable people around here say about Phil's performace, I believe in his performance too.

It's dumb to try to create static between the two guys over who is the fastest.

I was wondering what was wrong. I also noticed you guys changing tires alot. I figured you were working on the Street tire class, then switched to the MT's.

I saw that dark brown Supra do some 1000' runs, that damn thing is gonna SMOKE tomorrow, I can't wait to see it.

Don
Yep...that's when it broke. we have a spare laying around we need to throw in but we gave up saturday.

We were changing tires like crazy becase we were told we couldn't run on the ET streets because they weren't radials. If we wanted to run the ETs we had to be in the Pro Mod class and we needed a 9 second license. <sigh>

can't wait to see the new engine!!! good luck!!
