How restrictive is our MAF

The other day I had mine out for various reasons and I looked at he MAF closely. I know we dont have one of those air density thingy like the Honda/Acura guys, but how restrictive are our MAF. From looking at it all it has in the air flow are the two metal screens and the hot wire assembly. The metal screens doesn't look to add much restriction in air flow. At least we don't have one of those flapper door type MAF, are those still being used?

It's not restrictive at all.

This guy Greg Prete took off the screen and it showed no feel-able gain, but it didn't seem to do any harm either.

Oh, I wasn't stating to remove the screens. I already knew there's abolutely no gains when they are removed. I was just curious on restriction because I have always heard that MAF created restriction. Ideal way to test it is on a flow test machine.

How can the MAF be all that restrictive? It's just a chamber with a resistor in it which measures air volume based on a number of factors, including temperature, I think.

If you are referring to the screen, several people here have removed it and noticed no difference.

MAF

there seems to be some gains to be made with a bigger maf,iam curently, swapping to a 89 vg30et and one of jimwolf technologys upgrades for the 450 package is a bigger maf from a cobra, bigger injectors ,ecu upgrade,t3/t4 and intercooler.on that motor its supose to be good for 350hp at 12pounds of boost sorry alittle off subject but i have asked the same ouestion about the maf seems to work for mustangs maybe its just voltage they send a bigger signal in response more fuel and abit more power. Our MAF is pretty big to start with. I have seel some of the LS1 guys file some of the material from the plastic support area in the middle of the MAF to make it flow a little better. I duno if it will help on a max or not?
