STOCK 4th gen hits 14s in the 1/4

Everybody has said that 5th gens are faster than 4th because they have hit 14s stock.

Today at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL Nealoc187 ran a 14.94 in his 96 GXE 5-speed with only suspension mods. He doesn't even have an intake! I am very impressed to say the least. This was his FIRST time at the track with his max.

Has anyone else with a 4th gen ever hit 14s stock?????

No one ever has, but I still find that kinda hard to believe. Don't take it wrong, but he might have had a OSCAI or something. Stickier tires help, suspension as well.

So he had his advantages..but congrats here.

russ just said you werent stock.. i think he meant you have less squat from the coilovers and your sticky tires help the launch, giving you a better time...

Any tires better than stock are better. Kumhos are very good tires from alot of people I have heard. Okay, still good run you are stock, suspension helps!

I was not disbelieving you...

I bet it was the upgraded brakes that help you.

In theory it should. The stock suspension allows for alot of front end lift off on sudden acceleration, throwing the weight of the car towards the back and causing a loss of front end traction. Stiffer springs should help that to a small degree.

Yeah...if you have Koni's set on soft..you will run a 16...if you set them to full firm then you will be running 13's for sure... ...suspension does help 1/4 mile time.....not .2 seconds...

Congrats on hitting the 14's stock. The closest i have seen anyone tot doing this was a guy with a 98SE w/ only a catback running a 14.8 & Aaron (Theblue) wiht a exhaust only.

Adam (MY4DSC) use to run consistent 14.9's in his stock 2k. He added a K&N cone & 18" rims and ran 14.8. hehe.

ANd the 14.3 run was done by Larry (madmax2k). He says he usually runs 14.5-14.4's most of the time.

a stock max can run 14.8s... it kind of sucks that I never had the chance to do that because I never raced before I got my exhaust. I don't think its possible for consistant 14.8s or even a 14.8 with the temperature above 70 but they can be done with practice.

Stiffer the shocks/springs the harder it will keep the front tires planted, meaning less wheel hop and more traction.

Russ....you didn't catch my sarcasm in that post...come on man...you seriously think that if he put stock spring and struts back in that he would be up to 15s???? NO WAY...the conditions weren't even very good yesterday..something like 85 -90% humidity and 75 degrees at 700ft MSL. I'll bet he could get 14.7s with better conditions and stickier tires.

I doubt he'll be in the 14s consistently with the way he sits, especially if he were to run in warmer weather. It sounds to me like he's just a pretty good driver and the track was decently sticky. The suspension does help somewhat. Tires don't mean squat as long as they aren't bald. Low profile V and Z rated tires are more for lateral g's, not straight line. I've pulled 2.25 60 foots with bald RSAs. Taller tires are actually better for drag racing.

I'd bet when he adds a Y-pipe, intake, exhaust he'll be in the 14.5-14.7 range like the most of us.

Pretty much any car that is capable of 90-91mph in the 1/4 mile, is a capable of 14.8-14.9s with 2.1-2.2 60 foots.

i ran 14.9, 14.7, 14.6 respectively with just a cone filter. you can check the "post 1/4mi times" post. i doubt a cone filter is good for 2 tenths. you can give me the benefit of a doubt i would be under 15 seconds in the 1/4 if i was completely stock. the point that 4th gens can't run 14's stock is rediculous. it's almost the same thing as saying that all 5th gens run 15s stock. that's how i feel. i really believe that maximas were made to run 14's.

What i noticed about most of you guys that run 14's stock are GXE's. I believe that this is because the GXE's have less options on them therefore weigh less and gives them that advantage. My friend has a 99 SE Limited and it has practically no options on it ( no sunroof,no ABS,no leather/power seats,)His car weighed only 2800 lbs.
