I think shifting to 4th is needed in the 1/4 mile (proof)

Interesting.. note..

i was talking to my friend about this situation and differences and he said.. maybe our launching techniques are different..

and i thought maybe he is right..

i usually launch at 4500 rpm or 5000 rpm..

E and A.. what do you guys launch at?

because i am thinking if i am launching at 5000 rpm.. i am going to get through 3rd quicker than you guys do..

Sprint... do you drop it or slip it from 5000?

My best ET was on a 3000rpm drop, on 205-65-15s running at 21 psi. that was also my best 60' by far, 2.209. I didn't make enough runs to work from higher rpms... i tried 2500 drop and slip, and 3000 drop and slip. My next lowest 2.258, with a 3000 rpm slip, though slipping it very quickly, not slowly like on the street.

Drop from anywhere between 2500 and 3000, depending on my mood

I need this clutch to last until the spring...the we can start slipping!

so if dave can confirm that he is launching real high rpms and Aaron can confirm that he is launching the same rpm's at you.. it would explain why dave and i run out of 3rd and you and Aaron can still leave it in 3rd ..

Right, my thing is that I find that I run better times if I hold 3rd all the way. Dave get better times getting out of 3rd earlier.

Before I went to lighter wheels and was running on my 17's, I could make it in 3rd and found that it normally gave me better times.

But that could have been due to the wheels or something that I've changed.

I launch at 4200-4400rpms. I slip the clutch just a little and feather the gas, but I still get quite bit of wheelspin. I don't ride the clutch. All my runs are on my 16s with 215/55s. I use to launch at 2500-3000 which resulted in the same amount of spin as my 4000+ launches, but also induced a bog once the tires hooked. Now when my tires hook, I'm at 3000+ rpms with no bog. My goal is to have very little wheelspin and come off the line at 3500rpms. Once I accomplish this, I think a 2.0-2.1 will be attainable.

Sprint-
When you launch at 5000 are you hooked up at around 3500?

Nope. I've got a shorter shifter than you! I have the SMC set to the shortest setting, and if I recall correctly, your's is at about 2/3rds.

So that can't be it!

Oh, and for a stock shifter, blue can shift that thing damn quick!

I think it all comes down to different cars do different things differently.

Maybe our cars hold power up high better? Doubt it, but without dyno's its gonna be hard to tell.

Wish I new a place in WNY that dyno'ed.

Yeah, I'd be interested to see how you do. Everyone I've talked to said I wouldn't see much in gains over the RT cat. And if its not going to help that much I don't really want do deal with the hassel of changing it for inspection.

I've thought of gutting my stock cat (we don't have testing up here...a cat just has to be on there), but I wouldn't do that until the spring. I want to see what my current setup can do.

I've got my STS set at 50%. I forgot to mention that I had taken off my RT cat at the time of my runs because I thought a brick was loose in it at the time. My runs a few weeks ago were with the stock cat. Seeing that my 95 trap speeds were better than my usual 93-94mph, it looks like the RT cat does little. I just ordered a Stillen B-pipe to replace my Courtesy B-pipe and I'll reinstall my RT cat at the same time (the bricks were fine). The reason I'm going with the Stillen pipe is because I don't have to run my fabricated 6" extension pipe. I got lazy when I had the extension pipe made (swivel flanges) and it makes for pretty bad exhaust leaks. No matter what I do, I still have leaks on either side. It was either sell the Courtesy B-pipe to my friend with a 97 or get a new pipe. Since I believe I'm rich (I'm not), I got the new pipe Who knows, maybe my car will be quicker.......doubt it.

Just a quick question

How bad is it to let your car hit up around 6K or so while racing? What I mean is - is there any damage your doing to your car, clutch engine whatever? Also where do you guy shift at during your regular daily drive? Are you lettign it rev higher or do you keep it somewhat low? Just kind of curious.

Around town, I take 1st to 3000, 2nd to 3000, and then usually go straight to 4th. I rarely use 3rd unless I'm trying to pull away from traffic quickly. Sometimes I start out in 2nd. Once you open up the intake and exhaust, starting out in 2nd is way too easy.

would you be willing to pay $50 before shipping for it? because i know thats about what he will charge... but i have heard from Tony C aka 1MAX2NV that he got his for $40 from maxrev.. see the thing is if you tell me you want it for $50 then i can have him do it today since the car will be down there and he will have my pipe next to him.. because if i ask him another day he will probably need to take my car to do another one
