Best car to modd for the money, reliability and comfort...

Just quirious what you guys think. My friend has a 97 VW Jetta. Black with black leather Vr6 5-speed. Got the car for 15,500 with 23,000 miles(this about a year ago). We took it to the track bone stock and ran 15.4@90. The car dynos about 150 hp and 150 torque bone stock and wieghs 3200lbs with him in it. He put a V1s s/c on it that puts out 8.5 psi at 6400 rpms. Went to the track again with just the s/c and a catback and I had the pleasure of running the car to its best time of 13.3@107(this with only a s/c and exhaust)and put down 260hp and 230tq at the wheels on the dyno(due to bad park plugs could only pull to 6000 rpms. Since then he has added a kevlar clutch, peliquen diff(like a quaif), lighted flywheel, headers, and test pipe. He just now put a smaller pully on too. Now sopposed to pull 12psi @ 6400(he only pulls to 5500 10psi till he gets an aftercooler settup. Have not realy been able to run it at the track due to realy realy bad tracktion(yes on slicks). So everything on the car including the car is maybe a little over 20,000 I could price everything out for you but i am tired of typing. All he needs now is cams and and aftercooler and that will put him at about 400hp at the motor. Not bad for under 25,000. Yes you could build faster but this is about price, reliablility, depedablity and comfort. And the best thing is it runs the same on the sreet, no NOS so the bottle does not get empty. Just Somthing to think about. OYA I was told that if I talked about his car I would have to put this "Live long, drive slow, buy handah" I quess it sucks to have everybody get out of the car at a light so you can race, cause you have to rely on your lightwieght. I know I am going to get flamed on but I have been a member sence the first maxima org and wanted to voice my opinion..

I don't know what car is "best" to mod but I am in the process of looking at a 93 Infiniti Q45 T, its RWD and there are some killer mods out there for it. B.A.D. Supercharger kit w/included thicker head gasket can put down over 500 RWHP with all other stock internals. Plus you wouldn't believe what a low mileage 1st gen Q sells for, their resale value flat out sux but I have always admired those cars. It looks like I might be able to buy one of these and still have money for a new Max late next year

I don't know how handy you are but replacing headgaskets on the Q is not like changing the oil. It's gonna be very labor intensive and expensive. 500hp is nice but I still bet the VW will be faster at 400hp. The Q is one heavy ****. But you can get one hell of a car for cheap though.

i think

any turbo car is a good car to mod, chip it and get an extra 50hp? why not. my friend has a 1.8T GTi i love it fit and finish but i rather have a 4 door. Any vr6 gti is nice as well, have another friend with a 96 Vr6 GTi, exhaust, chip, motor mounts, and intake. Even with my 95 se when i had intake, exhaust, ypipe.

I agree, I want a heavy weight highway cruiser with some ballz . There is an issue w/the 1st gen Q45 with the engine timing chain guides being made of plastic this is causing some engines to blow. I have already spoken w/my local Infiniti dealer about getting this fixed and its gonna run about $1400 but after the fix, the Q is good for at the very minimum 200K miles. The Q i'm looking at is mint and has a little over 50K original miles and for the price I am negotiating, an extra $1400 to get this fixed is not gonna hurt at all.

Peace,
