I installed my homemade "turbohawk" shiftlight last night. It's a great shiftlight for a $40 (Autometer charges $100 for thier's) and it's a small 1" X 3". Installation is extremely simple and took about 20 minutes. The shiftlight has 3 wires (power, ground, tach wire)

1) Take off the ECU cover on the passenger side foot well and remove the 10mm bolt holding the wiring bundle in the ECU.

2) Locate with bright yellow wire with a thin red strip. This is your coil #1 plug wire. This is your "tach" wire. Tie into this wire with the tach wire from the shiftlight.

3) I grounded the shiftlight to a 10mm on the steering wheels mount. Just find a good solid exposed metal location.

4) I ran the power wire to the cigarette lighter fuse in the fuse box.

5) Mount the shiftlight and you're all done.


I set my shiftlight at 6100 rpms at first, but the shiftlight was going off at 6400 which was little to high for because by the time I shifted, I was tooclose to redline. I changed it to 5800 so by the time I shift and react, I'm at about 6100-6200.

if u put it near the dash like i did, you didn't need to splice in to the ECU harness wiriing, just back of the gauges there a TAM screw and ground right there, then the power is from the cig lighter... huh.

where'd u mount urs?

I didn't want to pull apart my gauge cluster in order to set up my shiftlight. I just did it the way Jeff K did his. Mine is mounted on the drivers side corner where the A-pillar and dashboard meet. I've got it aimed right at my left eye.

What rpm is your's set at? It seems to me that the stock tach is off by 300 rpms after 5000 rpms so. Did you find this true also? I've got my light set at 5800 rpms which equates to an indicated 6100 rpms, so by the time I shift I'm at 6300.

yes. i noticed the rpm is way off past 5k.
i set mine at 6200 and the damn thing blinks around 6500,
so. i'll be putting in a 6k pill, i want to shift close to redline...
so, @6300 i'll have time to shift b4 redline, and if we can get the rev limiter raised from uprd on my ecu.. then all good..
