True dual exhaust...

Has anyone done or heard of someone put a true dual exhaust system on the Maxima? It is just an idea, but can't you have a custom job for two separate pipes coming from each header and have them come together into one muffler? I say one muffler because I don't think dual exhaust pipes (one on each side) would look good on a Maxima.

I don't think a true dual has been done. Just ones for show.

Could've sworn I've seen pics on the Org of someone with a true dual exhaust. Of course, it was awhile back...

That's A LOT of work. I only know of split exhausts from the cat back.

I don't think there would be enough room underneath. Where would you put the extra piping and cat?

i think they split at the cat though...so it's not a true setup.

A honest to god true dual exhaust system "could" be done but in order to even attempt to get the exhaust pipe equal length, you would have to have the pipes run "under" the unibody and not along the tunnel the provide for it. Thus you would lose alot of ground clearance. BMW have a true dual exhaust from the manifolds to the muffler

A true dual can be done fairly easily. Running two cats will be the hard part. Here's what you could do. Since we've only got a 3.0 DOHC motor, piping any bigger than 1.5" isn't really needed. Since the aftermarket Y-pipes run ~1.5" tubing off the manifolds, you could simply cut the joiint where the two pipes "y" into one another. You would then carry this piping in the stock location, but have the two pipes on top of one another. They would be tack welded to each other. Then follow the same pattern as others have done with the dual mufflers on either side OR even better, have Borla bullet mufflers on each pipe and have them exit in the stock location.

As for the cats, you'll need one for each pipe. If anything, buy a couple Honda cats which are bullet shaped. You could stager them for clearance. You would probably also want to have a H-pipe joining the two pipes somewhere aroudn the converters to equalize exhaust pressure on each bank.
