Don's VB upgrade

What do you guys think is a good price to have Don's vb upgrade done. I talked with the dealership and they said they would charge me about $350.00, I personally felt that was a little excessive. I would do it myself but I don't want to run any chances to mess up the vb. Let me know what's fair.

Honestly if the dealership is willing to do the same exact modification to the valvebody that Don does, and if they do all the labor involved, $350 is a damn good deal. Don's VB mod usually runs $450, plus any labor if you were to have it done. Also, if the dealership will warranty everything, then go to the dealership and get it done. I'm just wondering if the dealership is offering the same exact VB upgrade that Don offer.

Probably not. They probably do another VB mod. But if you want exactly what you get from Don... then get Don to do it.

Do you already have the part and the $350 is just for the install or is the dealership providing some kind of modified VB?

If you already have the VB, $350 is a ripoff, IMO. I would go to the geographic forum closest to you and see if there's someone there that would be willing to do it. Either that or go to a local tranny shop and see what they would charge you.

Maybe I wasn't to clear. I already have purchased the vb upgrade from Don. The dealership wants to charge me $350.00 just to pull the old vb out and put Don's vb in. Doesn't that seem a little steep in price?

Don's site says that it should take a mechanic 1-2 hours. (4-5 hours for a weekend mechanic)

At $68/hr thats $136 for 2 hours plus gaskets/filter/tranny fluid.

A dealer should charge no more than $240 but that is even steep. (They charge $100 for a tranny fluid change)

Maybe try a local speed or transmission shop. Take a copy of the instructions so they can see whats involved in the install

In that case, $350 is waaaay too steep. Several people have done the install and say that if you are careful and follow the directions, you should be able to do it yourself.

And I'm sure there are other Max owners in your area that are more than happy and willing to help you out.
