Car wash in winter..where to go?
Car wash in winter..where to go?
Ok, I am not talking about Florida winters, but winter where there is snow, ice, and cold. Where do you wash your car, if at all? Where I am at it is still not bad, temperature between 5 and 20 celsius. In the winter it can be down to -30, or up to 10 celsius. Surely one cannot hand wash because of frost bit. Is hot water ok? I am thinking power wash is ok as long as we don't use their soap. I think that stuff will strip off the wax? I have 3 layers of Zaino and would hate to have that come off. Would the hot water do any harm to the wax?
if you live in the rust belt, defanitly get a beater. if that's not an option, just hose off the underbody and wheel wells to get the salt out of there. no point in washing, cuz the snow and funk are going to get up on your car right away anyway.

After a few weeks in the salt you kinda have to or else you lose visibility out of your car and on the mirrors...plus it just gets plain gross.

Here in Minnesota, you have to wash, with all the salt and "road bogger" build-up. Go to a full service wash, where they dry it. Especially wipe the door jambs or the door will freeze shut.

Oh man, I am shaking already thinking of how the car will look.
My blue 3rd gen looked like shiet with all the salt on the doors and stuff, everything from the door handles down was white. I can't wait to see how my SUPERCHIPDUSTMAGNETBLACK max will hold up

I go to the .50 carwash and just spray it off and use the brush on the windows and lights. We now have a brushless carwash and i may do that some if the car gets in the weather,i have a truck to drive to work so car stays home during the week
WOW!
I guess that I am ****. I have a torpedo heater that I got at a yardsale for $75. I put in in my garage and shut the door and let it run for an hour. By then it's about 55-60 in there is it's 20 outside. I got out, wash the car and then dry it off. I do this every other week and wax once a month still.
Store your hose inside and your cleaning supplies or they will be a block of ice.
Seriously...you can get a kerosene TORPEDO heater like the use at football games for $125 new if you look around. Worht every penny to me.

Personally, I will wash it myself until the temps get below 50 then head to a hand car wash or detail shop.
But before I begin that fun process for 2001, I am going to do the following:
a) Wash the car with a decent shampoo
b) Get rid of any swirl marks with 3M Swirl Mark Remover
c) Apply Klasse All-In-One twice
d) Apply Klasse Sealant Glaze three or four times
That should give the Maxima enough protection to weather the elements as well as give it a decent shine for over 6 months while she gets professionally washed.

Well, some days I might be able to wash with a bucket in my garage. A lot of times in the winter the attached garage can be -10c, so that isn't comfortable. Most likely will go with the touchless washes, even if it will strip off the coats of wax. C'est La Vie, put the wax on back in the spring :-(
