Hey Morris,
Don't worry about it. I heard the same and posted it here about 3 or 4 days ago asking if anyone heard something similar.
I beleive some people are afraid of this notion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course. Some people are hard-headed, some are just plain idiots! In any case, time will tell. Sh*t, maybe inless than 2 years.
I, for one, would welcome the changes I heard. I love my Max, but the thought of an "improved" Nissan with more luxury, more power, more room and possibly, more performance in a 4 door sedan???? Anyone here of an M5??!!
Hell yeah, I'm interested!! I'm even already thinking of aftremarket possibilities. I'm shocked to read that Max owners are against it.
I'm done.

that's the thing..
A V8 Maxima would be totally out of place..... There really are no Japanese V8 family sedans being made. I know there are Crown Vics and such in the American market but those cars do not really appeal to the average buyer. Toyota, Honda, Mitsu, Mazda don't have cars any 8 cyl. family boats. There really is no market for this car, wtf are they trying to do? I don't understand why one would spend 35-40 grand on a damn Nissan family car????????????? I understand if it was a Skyline or something but this is just a dumb idea if you ask me. Infiniti's Q45, Lexus LS, Acura RL are the cars to buy if you are looking for cars like that, although they do run a bit more, still.... Most people infact pay for the Name.
Sentra has been the Nissan sports car since the 1st SE-R... although the REAL sports car is the Z model. I think Nissan has never been able to create a stable line up and stay with it.. Unlike Honda and Toyota... they did not have a midsize family sedan in 4 and 6 cyl. instead they had the Max and the Alty.. Besides, through the 90s they had a bunch of out-of-place models like 240SX, 200SX, 200NX, 300ZX, Nissan Stanza.. most makers have a luxury/big car at around 30 grand, a midsize 4/6cyl. 16-27 grand, small econo-box 11-17 grand, minivan, large SUV, small SUV, truck... But Nissan is still scrambling their line up.. although it's for the better... or at least I hope so.... ok let me stop..

My neighbor sells air power tools and was at the plant where they make the motors for Nissan. They were telling him about the V8 line coming out next year.
Yesterday I was talking to a manager at the Nissan dealership and he was saying that next year's Maxima would have the V8 and optional all-wheel drive, pushing 300 hp. The price will go up to mid thirties to the low forties.

How about this: If the successor to the I35 will compete with Acura and Lexus,THEN who will the 2003/2004 Max compete with? Avalon? Have you seen an Avalon lately?

the other link confirmed the AWD option, it wasn't much info but both interviews were w/nissan execs. I will search through my old posts.

That engine should be a beast, too bad it won't be offered with a manual transmission in the USA

Nissan has had an "Avalon" fighter on the planning books for several years - I just didn't realize that an over-sized Maxima would be the final solution. The platform layout of Altima against Accord/Camry and Maxima against Avalon does make sense.
The Avalon may be big and ugly, but that doesn't stop Toyota from selling 8,000+ a month - that's almost as many as Nissan sells of the Max.

Well one thing is for shure, the Maxima will go up in price. Just look this phrase taken from the press release:
When Maxima production begins in 2003, the plant will build 75,000 of the sedans annually.
That's less than this years ('02) 80,000 and even less than last years ('01) 130,000 units.
YIKES!
