V8 coming to a Maxima near you...

My neighbor sells air power tools and was at the plant where they make the motors for Nissan. They were telling him about the V8 line coming out next year.

Yesterday I was talking to a manager at the Nissan dealership and he was saying that next year's Maxima would have the V8 and optional all-wheel drive, pushing 300 hp. The price will go up to mid thirties to the low forties.

Not that I was looking for approval, but if you thinka about what they have been doing the last couple of years with the Sentra, and Altima, it makes sense. Think about it. The Sentra is the size of the old Altima and the Altima is now the size of the Maxima, so what's left? To increase the size of the Maxima to the size of the Q45. Believe it or not.

So you guys think it will just stay the same with just a little extra horsepower than the Altima? The Altima is now bigger tha the Max. I am sure Nissan would have two sedans roughly the same size, and horsepower. Yep, that would make perfect sense.

Even if it does start coming with a V-8, it will be bigger and heavier like you said, morris. It'll probubly became just another big fat luxury car...

...I don't like where the maxima is goin. I will miss the sportyness.

Well, I have always wanted a Q45, but it has always been just out of my price range. I love the maxima as it is now, but have been looking for a little more luxury and hp.

It is all true. I have an uncle who works for Nissan and they will base it on the new Q platform and it will be priced from the mid to upper 30's. I don't know about awd. He told me it would have independent suspension.

I believe that could happen. Hell if someone told most of us that there was a 255 hp 6sp Maxima coming out before there was official word then most of you would be saying yeah right.

I believe it. Altima is the new Maxima, and Maxima will be the new luxury car. It will be made to compete with Acura and Lexus models.

I wouldn't trust most Nissan dealer representatives...

Most of them don't know jack about the cars they are selling, or just lie about what it has or what's going to be coming on the car in the future.....
However, if the Maxima will come in V8, I bet it will be an automatic, it's going to weigh more than a city bus and will not sell for ****....... Who the hell would buy a NISSAN for 35-40 grand?!?!?! We're not talking a super sports car like the 300ZX here.. Just a large family boat.... I bet it's going to look like trash too....

Re: I wouldn't trust most Nissan dealer representatives...

Why would a salesman talk up a car that is a year away if it weren't true. If it weren't true he would be trying to talk me into buying a car on the lot that day. Yeah, it might be bigger and weigh more, but some people would like a little more luxury and still have the hp. You guys can still have the Altima if you are that concerned about it not being sporty enough.....Honda makes a few "sporty" cars as well.

It's sad. Damnet. Nissan is really ****ing me off. This is the future of the Maxima:

V-8 at around 300 HP
AWD Option
Obesely inflated and 4000lb. curb weight
Ugly and UN-SPORTY

Did you know they are going to start making the SENTRA the new sports-car !? Whhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyy.

Ever since '99 the Nissan maxima has been on route for disaster

It's true, most of the car salesmen people at my dealership didn't even know what a SE-R is, and it's coming out in like a week.

AWD??

The entire concept is sorta fashionable right now. Mostly wagoons and Euro's trying to steal a chunk of the SUV market. AWD just doesnt fit into the persona of the Maxima, in my opinion. If I want AWD I'll jump into my Ford truck, 'cause if I REALLY NEED AWD/4x4 performance, I wouldnt want to be taking my nice Max there anyhow.

Audi has had AWD for years and they are doing just fine. Ask Jambo about his new S4. AWD doesn't necessarily mean 4WD. 2 different things.

lol, are you an idiot? The AWD isn't for off roading. AWD in cars is for better handling, poor weather traction (snow, ice, rain), and also better off the line launching (not necessarily in big cars but in the sporty ones like WRX, Audi's, ect). I am sure nobody plans to take their maxima off road-or did nissan intend for anyone to. Why don't some of you believe what Morris said? Whay would they have two almost exact same cars in production? The Altima and Maxima are barely any different. It makes no sense for them NOT to make the Maxima bigger, and since when is this new news? I heard all of this a while ago on this board... Some of the details are all speculation but a bigger maxima is for sure in the future. And who is the one who said the Sentra is the new sports car? It's not a sports car...It's just in the same class as the Integra, Civic Si, ect...to compete with those cars. The new 350z will be THE sports car.

No. The infiniti line is designed to compete with Acura and Lexus.

If the successor to the I35 will compete with Acura and Lexus, than who will the 2003/2004 Max compete with? Avalon? Have you seen an Avalon lately? Ugly.

But the Infiniti was always intended to compete with Acura and Lexus. That's the whole point of the Infiniti line -- a luxury verson of Nissan. Just like Acura (honda) and Lexus (toyota.)

It's nothing "new" ... but yes, the Avalon is nasty.

Hey Morris,

Don't worry about it. I heard the same and posted it here about 3 or 4 days ago asking if anyone heard something similar.

I beleive some people are afraid of this notion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course. Some people are hard-headed, some are just plain idiots! In any case, time will tell. Sh*t, maybe inless than 2 years.

I, for one, would welcome the changes I heard. I love my Max, but the thought of an "improved" Nissan with more luxury, more power, more room and possibly, more performance in a 4 door sedan???? Anyone here of an M5??!!

Hell yeah, I'm interested!! I'm even already thinking of aftremarket possibilities. I'm shocked to read that Max owners are against it.

I'm done.
