Add Y-Pipe, Reset ECU?
Add Y-Pipe, Reset ECU?
I recently added a Budget Performance Exhaust Y-Pipe to my 1997 Max and I read somewhere that you should disconnect the battery to reset the computer so that it will adjust itself to the new airflow.
Is this something that you need to do? I've noticed that since I've put in the Y-Pipe and haven't reset anything that my exhaust tip shows black on the inside which indicates a different fuel-air mixture.
Is disconnecting the battery the way to adjust this?

no, it's not necessary because the ECU is able to adjust for the fuel supply via the mass air flow sensor. By resetting it you change the fuel maps to the default setting and allow the ECU to adjust a little sooner but if you don't reset it, the ECU will adjust eventually.
