I have a set of 16"/6.5" Max rims (for my 2K1) that I want to put H-Rated winter tires on. Any recommendations of the size of the tire and specific brand and model? Anyone who has had H-Rated winter tires on their Max during the winter please post comments.

we use Michelin Pilot Alpine H rated.

It was claimed to perform like a Summer tires, but with more grip. Those things are expensive!

I found that they had way more grip and stability than the RE92.

 

I just bought 4 Artic Alpins from The Tire Rack. They aren't H rated, but are supposed to handle well (see Tire Rack reviews, Consumer Reports, Forum posts). I chose them over the Pilot Alpins because they are readily available if I trash one and because the reviews I checked didn't seem to identify a big difference in performance - I suspect any tire that is really good in the snow is going to make a big handling compromise. I also went from the stock 17" to a 15" snow to get a narrower tire - this makes a big difference, especially in deep snow.
