revised auto shifting idea. maybe it works,
i heard that o/d off put the car into 4th, and D is 3rd gear, so is it possible to go from 1 ( first gear), 2 ( second gear) D ( 3rd gear), then od off ( 4th gear). will this work? also do we have to shift it at a certain pt in order to make it work, like 1 goes to 30mph then 2...

another thing, dont press the od off untill u hit the speed in the range of 4th gear, which is around 70 to 90??
in another word, people who just p ress od/ off whenever should press it when the speed is around 70 to 90...

maybe not for the 4th gen, but the 5th gen it will. The auto shifts early around 6k rpms. Peak hp is at 6400 rpm or so. Shifting manually will get you there.

I have found that manually shifting the auto doesn't do much for 0-?? acceleration but it does give quicker downshifting while at speed. I hate waiting for the computer to downshift the tranny when I really need to drop the gear therefore I shift manually. If your driving at 30, downshift to 2nd and take it to 5000RPM. if your travelling at 60, turn off the OD. The car does accelerate faster when doing this because you are dropping the tranny into the most effective gears for the given power in the engines powerband.

Here you go...
I'm back to stock, so my ET's are up.
Shifting manually = 15.8
Shifting automatically =15.9

Look... I know what I'm talking about. I have at least 60 timeslips siting on my desk spanning 2 years. All in a variety of conditions and different tracks. The 5th gen auto runs faster with a manual shift. I don't think this applies to previous generations. The 5th gen makes its power up high (6400 RPM) the tranny shifts around 6000. Doesn't take rocket science to figure that out. It's not hard to shift an auto.

and you can prove that it was this "manual shifting" and not one of the hundreds of other factors? look bottom line, shifting like that on an auto will provide nothing but mental results, its very inconcistant seeing you have 3 chances of loosing time as you shift. Even when you push up that nice auto shifter its the computer that will decide when to actually change. By you shifting it like that your just slowing it down.....

i dont think od/ off works but shifting from 1 to 2 then d definitly make the car go faster.
