Passport 8500 and V1 Version 1.8---PICTURES!:)
Passport 8500 and V1 Version 1.8---PICTURES!:)
Ok here they are. You can see how much smaller the V1 is in terms of length and overall height. However, it is wider, but it has to be in order to use those wonderful arrows:0 If you look at your current V1 version 1.7 or older, you will see that the rear laser sensor is no longer on the ledge below the arrows. It's in fact in the middle of the band indicator now.
Notice the direct wire kit with the Passport 8500. I have the V1 kit on order and it should be here this week. The shot in the car is my fiance's Avenger with the 8500 showing an X band signal and the direct wire kit mounted under the blower vents on the dash---see the green light?
Oh yea--I know that the position in which I mounted the Pasport 8500 isn't the best. The car has no tint line on it at all on the windshield. However, its rear sensor is a bit blocked by being up that high. To be honest, I don't even think that Passport is worthy of saying it can detect from the rear--read my 800 mile road trip post to understand why.
Enjoy--

yes
It's a 96 Dodge Avenger with the 2.0 DOHC engine and the auto tranny. That thing doesn't have enough power to get out of it's own way. But it manages to achieve about 38mpg on the highway and about 27 in the city---we drive it a lot

I already have stealth with my v1, ********. I'm saying I'll upgrade to 8500 if I can figure out a way to do the 8500 the same way
Re: Re: Stealth?
Why not just upgrade the V1?? The new one will jsut plug right into your existing setup. PLus, its cheaper than buying a brand new 8500. As Shumax's report has shown, if any one is better than the other, its not by much. The new V1 1.8 seems to be a smiden better than the 8500 anyhow.

WOW
The New V1 looks like a TOY!
IT looks really funny from the Front, kinda looks like something out of PowerRangers or something!
But The Size is Great ... To bad Radar Detectors are Illegal in Toronto, or I'd save up for one!

Oh but it is MaineI30
Look closer. It's exaclty 1/4" shorter and doesn't have the EYE for the rear laser under the arrows anymore. That 'eye' was moved to the left of the band identifier. Trust me, in person it is a LOT smaller. I know a 1/4" sounds like NOTHING, but it is everything with this unit.

Cheap?
I looked at those pics again and I can see what you are saying about it LOOKING cheap. However, in person I think that you would sing another song. It is in fact the exact same metal casing that the first versions had...it's just lighter b/c it's smaller.
Oh well. If I get to a meet sometime, I will bring them both along for you all to see.

Re: Cheap?
Yeah! What he said. I just got my V1 1.8 as well. It's the exact same thing as the 1.7 but smaller. If you could compare 1.7/1.8 to airpalnes, the 1.7 was a B-52 bomber, big powerful and imposing. The 1.8 is a stealth bomber, lot of power, smaller more discreet size

Re: Cheap?
haha ... Hey its a Good Piece of Technology that cost a few Hundred Dollars, and I want one too. Sucks the fact they are Illegal in Canada, and I won't be able to see one in person.
But just that the new 1.8 "Concentrated" version of the V1 just looks kinda Goofy from the front!
But the bottom line is ... I Wish I had one!
