whats advantage of a cast hallow cam?

Hey
juss wondering if there is any advantage to a cast hallow cam compared to a solid one? besides lighter weight...anything?

Lighter weight=less reciprocating mass=better throttle response.

thanks but what i meant was BESIDES lighter weight....is there any advantage?

huh? I thought with a solid mass there's better chance of withstanding more heat, like a heatsink?

A camshaft isnt reciprocating mass, it's rotating mass.

Nah...the only other "advantage" is that a casting is much cheaper and easier to mass produce than a forging. I think it's also easiser to grind/regrind.

There's also the question of durability. In an OEM application, hollow castings aren't a big concern. But if you float the valves at 8 grand and 15 psi every day...well...
