Is anyone out there using a transmission cooler if so would you post up some details? Thanks!

 

are you lookin to race. and, is that red max yours??? if so, you should know allready that there used for racing primarily, but can be used for daily drivers.

 

Actually transmission coolers were designed for towing applications

 

I've had a trans cooler on my Maxima for about 5yrs and the trans is still going strong. I'm using a Hayden cooler, I don't remember the model number. I have it setup on the return line from the radiator cooler to the trans.
The cooler adds some extra fluid capacity and ensures the fluid stay cool for days like this....


They are fairly simple to install, in a northern climate you may want some type of thermostatic bypass to make sure the fluid reaches proper temps during the colder months. I'm in Florida so did not feel that type of setup was needed.

 

The details I wanted was who makes them, model number, performance.

I'm using one from B&M, I think the model number was 70268. They have a built-in bypass so when the weather gets cold the ATF bypasses the cooler completely so it heats up sufficiently. Along with Amsoil ATF, I figure it's good insurance to prolong the life of the tranny. 1-2 shifts are firmer but the rest of the shifts are smooth.

I picked up my B&M cooler from the local AutoZone about three years ago. They had to order it for me but it only took two days. Call your local auto parts stores. If I remember correctly, it was only about $80 or so. But it's a good investment if you plan on keeping the car and wish to prolong the life of the tranny.

When I had a trans cooler in my Maxima, I used a Haydens 403X trans cooler. I usually disconnected it during winter since I did a lot of short distance driving. All you do is tap into the trans cooler lines that runs to your radiator. You will need some additional clamps and hose. The cooler was mounted infront of my a/c condensor. I had no cooling issues whatsoever. The cooler was like $45, then again that was over 7yrs ago.

 

yea im just a daily driver but i drive pretty hard sometimes.

i also live in the tire melting heat of FLORIDA. i was thinking about putting additives in the coolant and ATF. i see them in autozone but never bothered to ask how they work.

is this recommended for such a hot climate?

 

To be honest, your best bet is to just do the fluid changes when needed/more often depending on driving conditions.

You are def better off getting a trans cooler if you drive hard or do any kind of racing.
