Big Wheel Big Weights

I've recently purchased four Konig Tantrums 17 x 8 with 235/45/17
tires. On one of the wheels there is a strip of 17 tape-on weights (12 front and 5 back same area of rim). The equates to 17 x 0.25 oz = 4.25 ozs. This seems to be quite a bit of weights to get the wheel to balance. Anyone with this experience and is this acceptable? Is there a chance that the wheel/tire is a below average unit?

Did you get them used? That seems like a ton of weight to get them to balance out.

That is a ton of weights. I have four to five weights on each wheel for my heavy a$$ Borbet Type M's.

I have one wheel with a strip of about 6 or 7 tape on wts. There behind the dish in the inside, you really can't see them and the car drives perfect. No big deal.

When more than 3.00 ozs. the person balancing the wheels should deflate the tire and mark where the valvestem is and rotate it 45 degrees and reinflate it and try to balance it again if more than 3.00 ozs. is required it is because the wheel is bent or defective. My father has been in the tire and wheel buisness for over 32 years and I speak from knowledge he past to me when I worked for him going through college. And the process can be repeated until the weight is reduced below 3.00 if it cannot be done something is wrong with the tire or wheel.

Thanks very much for the advice. I'll have the shop perform a rebalance as per your suggestions. I'll also target the 3 oz.
limit and if that's not possible, request for a new wheel and tire.
