URGENT Help: Removing starter

I'm in the process of removing my starter and have successfully taken out 1 of the 2 bolts. I'm stuck on the bigger (~17mm) bolt and have soaked the bolt in WD-40. Any other ideas on getting the thing to move? I'm using a socket set, and can't torque any harder... your thoughts? No breaker bar available...

Go get your self some PB-Blaster, a 1/2" breaker bar, and a 1/2" 17mm socket. soak the bolt in PB-Blaster and use the breaker bar. if needed get a torch and heat up the bolt for about 5 mins then go at it.

Make sure the 17 mm socket is a 6 point. After you shower this stubborn bolt with PB Blaster, give the head a few blows with a hammer. This will shock it, and allow further penetration of the oil.

After some PB blaster mine came right out.

Perhaps go around to the front of the car to get more leverage if you haven't already...

Hit the handle of our ratchet to shock the bolt free. Do not try and just apply pressure. You might break the bolt. Give it a good whack. Once a metric bolts breaks free from the rust she will spin out easy. Have patience and it will work for you.

if needed get a torch and heat up the bolt for about 5 mins then go at it?i dont think u would want to heat the head of the bolt itself but rather the area directly around it to get optimum effect for the torch.......and five min is a long time lol but wtf do i know

The easiest way is to find a 2 or 3 foot pipe to slip over the wrench handle for more leverage.

if you have a jack the bar usually breaks into 2 pieces. i use the top half as a breaker bar for that same exact job. try that out.

I'm exactly stuck at the same point as you are. the stubborn 17mm bolt is driving me crazy. I'll try WD40 and PB blaster, hopefully it helps.

+1. This is what I did. Didn't even need WD-40.

You brought back a 2.5 year old thread to say that?
