I did a search on aftermarket companies... didnt turn out that positive.... but this guy swears... that most companies are very shady... but this company is an honest one... and says i can have 5 days to think about it... and "reserved" the plan for me... just gotta let him know after i researched everything.
Got a card in the mail for a warranty... called them up on the phone and this is what i got
since my car has 120k miles... (5.5 gen 6sp) i can only get the powertrain warranty
Covers
" Engine , Fuel System , Transmission/transaxle and drivetrain components, EVEN if failure results in wear and tear"
and the guy on the phone said... it covers most wear and tear items in the motor... like timing chain , Water pump , hoses... and the AC system
--
The company name is Certfied Auto Warranty Services.. (couldnt find a direct website)... but the sales rep gave me another website... www.royaladmin.com they said they are a warranty distributor... and distribute alot of warranties..
Pricing.
$1900... for 5 year /100k mile coverage
or finance.. 200$ downpayment and 94$ / monthly for 18 mo. 0% interest.
said i can cancel the warrenty if i want...
Transfer warranty to another car... and pay the difference or something.
sell car with warranty... and transfer ownership
and he claims... that all i need is an ASC mechanic to diagnose the problem... doesnt have to be a dealer. and they will cover it if its part of the powertrain warranty.
---
What do you guys think?... As of right now.. my car has the 3rd gear crunch... prlly worn synchros... if it could be rebuilt or something... it would be nice..... its not even that bad..... just annoying... probably in its early stages.
and oil consumption..... .5 liter / 1000 miles. not that bad.
let me know...

Take the Max in for service, file a claim with this company and let us know the outcome to see if they stand behind on what they sold you.

does an inspector of the company come and check your car out? To be honest with you, if you are getting this warranty because your looking for a new engine down the line, rethink that. A new Nissan engine with install is $10k and I highly doubt the warranty company would cover that. If they were to, they would go the cheapest route first..ex: engine rebuild, new rings etc. I wouldnt trust those things...
Personally, this is what I would do:
- Not get that warranty and spend 2gs b/c the liklihood of them covering major expenses (tranny, engine) is slim
- Switch to a heavier weight oil to keep consumption down
- Get an 04 maxima hlsd tranny...no 3rd gear crunch and you get lsd. People have done this for around $1500

YES!
I deal with aftermarket warranty companies here where I work as a car broker. The one I deal with is great, no issues and pays the claims.
I took one out on my 2003 49xxx miles from Mercury Select Management Company. I have 30 days to decide if I want to keep it. Or I can get a full refund. $1400.00 bumper to bumper for 100K. I read the entire warranty, and they will not cover Grinding of valves or other component repairs to improve compression or correct oil consumption when a defined mechanical breakdown has not occurred.
Since 03's are known to burn oil, and th manual clearly states that burning a little oil is normal, I don't know if I want to keep the warranty. She is not burning any oil right now. But unless a breakdown occurs, I don't think it will be covered. So whats the point?
Any advice?

We just had an older lady locally get taken by a similar scam if not the same one. Check with the Better Business Bureau in your area before sending anything.

when i got my car in sept 06 i got an "after market" warranty, 3 years or 30k miles, and its awesome. they have fixed my radio, steering wheel radio controls, both front wheel bearings, power seat and window regulators. with mine you pay up to $100 for the repair, even if you put stuff together, i did the radio issue and wheel bearing all in one repair, they even paid for the allignment.
i would so go for it!
come to think of it, its almost up...

more thoughts to ponder:
- take the $2000 and invest it in a rainy day fund (or your new car fund
) to handle any serious problems that may or may NOT actually happen. and you can earn interest along the way.- if you have 120k, might you already have a new water pump? not sure about timing chain or a/c issues on maximas, but i drove my last car (beretta gtz) well over 200k on all orig a/c components and timing chain...and last i checked nissans were better quality than chevy.
- more common issues like window motors, ign coils, etc. are cheap and easy to fix yourself (if you are so inclined).
- aftermarket warranties are usually a PITA (can be like dealing with health insurance companies). now if you were getting the Nissan Gold extended warranty, that is a different story....but you probably cannot get that at this point.

You can call the dealer and see who they recommend and also call the bank who holds your loan, or did hold your loan, and you should find a customer service number and call it and ask them if they cover your 2 problems

I read a thread about 04 tranny problems as well. Not saying what you are suggesting is incorrect, but I read 04 trannys also have issues.Originally Posted by SLVRMAXX

I'd stay away from them... I can't speak for this company, but my father received a similar form in the mail for his I35. Did a search on them and found numerous complaints on file with the local BBB to the company's HQ for something along the lines of "failure to comply with warranty terms."
But, if you can find other people (or mechanics) that have experience with them and it's positive, I'd give it some consideration.

yea... the only reason i asked is because.... i met a co-worker yesterady.. that has Western general (and google is full of bad reviews about them)
and that company replaced his motor... because it threw a rod...
5000$ job... he only had the warrenty for 3 months... paying monthly installments..
-=--
but i think im gonna pass.... my car isnt in horrible shape... if i take care of it... it should ride for a while... and i save 2 grand... plug.. .i hear that it takes up to 4 weeks for all the paperwork to pass... for them to grand ur clami...
---
For all the people that said they have certain companies that are actually honest and everything..... could you mention the names?... and if they work all around the US?....

1) i already plan on moving to 10w 40 castrol GTX high mileage... if that doesnt slow down things.... i dont know what will.... also i plan on removing the plugs and reading them... and checking the compression.. if all shows clear.... im sure its something else (valve covers... etc)
2) I just did a search on this 04 hlsd tranny swap... didnt find anything... got a link or something.. im pretty interested.

NO big rip off. DO NOT DO IT! put the 2grand in a bank account and use it for when things break. if you have to do 2grand in repairs to your max i would be VERY surprised.
