VLSD trannies, how long before they need rebuilding????

I'm considering a new tranny by late winter/early spring. So that I can have as much information as possible I'd like to know the average life expectancy of the VLSD in 4th gen trannies. No matter what I'm looking for, the transmission must be out of a low mileage car. Preferrably a transmission with less than 20k miles of use. I've heard that the Viscous limited slip differential requires rebuilding and right now the last thing I want to do is rebuild a tranny. What would you do? Would you go for the VLSD? Get a regular manual and go for the Cattman/Quaife ATB differential? Knowing that the ideal route would be the latter but $1000+ just for the differential starts to send my tranny budget close to or past $2000. Any suggestions are welcome, I'd really like some more info on the VLSD trannies and feedback from owners who have them. I'd like to keep my 4th gen for another 2 years at least. So a $1000+ investment is worth it in my eyes.
