mine

I got mine for like $7.50 a piece at customizing shop...make sure you don't tighten the screws too muhc it cracks around them! (I did this on just about every corner on both plate covers)

license cover

I'm pretty sure I still have a brand new one, still in package. I had bought two of 'em and only ended up using one on the back...until I got pulled over for it and had to take it off.

I don't know if it'd even be worth it to ship to ya...shipping would probably be like 5$ and if you can buy a new one for 7 or 8 bux, then...you do the math.

Re: license cover

I was at Orchard Beach once in NY, and got 2 $55 tickets for having clear liscence plate covers (one on front, one on back). I took pics of them and pleaded not guilty and got them reduced to $15 each. But that's still stupid.

That's weird - I wonder if the law is different by state. In MO, there is a problem with people stealing the yearly stickers for license renewal. they remove the sticker off of a license plate that has had their plates renewed (i.e., until 2002) and stick it on their own plates. To combat this, the local police suggest using a knife to cut an X shape through the clear sticker to prevent them from peeling off cleanly and to use clear license covers. Hmmm.

I took my front plate off now anyways, so I can't get a ticket for a cover on the front plate!

I got nailed for this also

I did some research and here in NY "it is illegal to cover your plates with any kind of material" even clear plastic. I discussed this with a trooper friend of mine and his opinion was that the state lawmakers are stupid. I agreed !!

Re: I got nailed for this also

I tried to argue with the cop in the lot who gave me the ticket saying that these clear covers actaully help keep the plates clean. He didn't buy that. But obviously they know it's a stupid law if they reduced the fines.

You can buy a new one at like a Pep Boys or something... an automotive store should have them. Yes they are illegal, even the clear ones... stupid isnt it? Even the license plate frams is illegal in NJ. They can't cover up anything on those plates. Also, if the license plate light is out, they can give you a ticket for that too.

I got a warning for this one time. I think it's because it hinders the reflection of the plate making your plate harder to see by the cop. I believe that's why it's illegal to have one in most areas.

In my experience they worked out in my favor, I got pulled over for speeding and the cop told me I seemed like a nice guy so he was not going to cite me for speeding and gave me a $25 ticket for my rear tinted plate cover. Cool huh? if i didn't have that i mat have gotten the speeding ticket?

I did also get pulled over for it when I moved to VA but the cop was cool, I told him I just moved here and that it was legal in NY, he said he just wanted me to know they weren't leagal in VA and I agreed to take them off when I got home (yeah right!).

Then again, maybe he was just a nice cop. I once got caught doing 85 in a 55 and the cop let me go because he liked my car and the mods. Said he was an import enthusiast.

$65 fine in Kansas

I got nailed with this BS a few months ago. I contested the ticket and the judge said there can be absolutely no material covering your plate...bam $65 fine.

I find it funny you can cruise around with a mud covered or scraped up plate, but if you put a very slightly smoked plate cover on, you're breaking the law. PLUS! Almost every single modded car I see in the Kansas City area has one of these things.
