NOS - Is it Worth It?!

Hey NOS Owners:

I am almost at the edge of purchasing the NOS kit and accessories. Here's what I am looking for spent all for about 50-60 more horses.
IS IT WORTH IT?!

ATM-20802 Gauge Pod $25
ATM-5728 NOS Pressure Gauge $70
ATM-5775 A/F Gauge $55
MSD-8956 MSD RPM Switch $77
Switch Mod $35
NOS-05124 NOS Import Kit #5124 $500
NOS-14164 NOS Bottle Heater $113
NOS-14165 NOS Bottle Blanket $30
NOS-16058 NOS Remote Bottle Openr $159
SUM-G3902 Toggle Switch (heater) $16
SUM-G3902 Toggle Switch (opener) $16
Installation for all: $350

TOTAL: $1446 + miscellaneous ==> $1500 = 50-60 ponies.

Is this worth it? Or should I spend the money more wisely on some other mods? maybe a Vacation? downpayment on 2002 SE?

you would pretty much need the same equipment as dashingMax wrote at the beginning of the thread. Just shop around...Parts for Sale or Group Deals sometimes have NOS kits pop up...

I dont know if custom maxima can get a group deal on it, but if you can find a few other guys to go in on it with you, Canuck - another guy on here is about to get NOS too, maybe you can get a discoutn. Try www.eatricezone.com and see if Phuong can get it too.

Question for those with the import kit

Hello,

I have a question for those with the NOS import kit. I was wondering what the kit comes with in terms of engine management. In other words, does the kit come w/ a piggyback or controller of some sort that will increase fuel and retard timing when you turn the NOS on. If not, what do you use to get extra fuel into the engine, and change the timing?

Thanks

I'm putting in a 50 shot of wet NOS kit into my 99 Altima SE. I started the install on Sunday for 2 hours, but it got dark so we stopped and will pick it up today. All I can tell you is that the install is going pretty easy and that only problem I faces was getting the extra fuel to the NOS nossle. My friend and I are going to invent something, probably a "T" to cut the fuel pipe and have the bottom of the "T" going to the NOS nossle. That is how the NX kit is. The directions are confusing when they describe a part that doesn't actually exist on my car. I'll let you know how it goes today after the install.

Timing Retard: Nothing you can do if you own 97+ Maxima. The MSD does not even make any aftermarket controller for the Maxima and cannot modify the current controller to work on the Max. They said that the Maxima has some computerised, coil thingy which will fry with their controller.
Solution: Stay below 70 shot and stock timing should be okay.

Fuel Increase: NOS Import Kits use the stock fuel pump to give the extra fuel needed. It comes with a bypass jet in a pressure TEE (part#17538). One end attaches to stock fuel pressure regulator and other to Nitrous pressure regulator. Nitrous pressure which comes from the NOS bottle, increases the Fuel pressure through this "T" setting get more fuel into your system. NOS tech line said that the stock fuel pump should handle upto 70 shot. Anything more than that, one will need a fuel pump and a optional fuel pressure regulator.

I have not installed NOS myself but have read the instruction manual 50 times, so take it for what its worth.

Re: Re: Question for those with the import kit

Why do you need to stay below a 70 shot? Timing retard is recommended, not required. There are a lot of people running over a 70 shot without the JWT ECU with No problems. 80 shot, 100 shot, 125... As for raising the fuel pressure, it is done through the stock fuel pressure regulator, by adding pressure to it from the NOS. If you have any other mods to your car, like CAI, Y-pipe, I wouldn't run over a 60 shot without upgrading the fuel pump, it's just not worth the hassle or potential trouble...

ya you should stay at a 60 shot if you have ANY OTHER mods which i hope you do if you have NOS.

I would run a 50 shot, not 60 shot. The 60 shto is useless. I tested this @ a Test & Tune night. I ran teh same times and same trap speed and with a 50 & 60 shot. Both times i a ran 14.3@97. IF you want anymore power, i would go at least 80 shot. a 10 shot incriment does nothing. You will find as the more NOS you go, the harder it is to get new times.

Okay...so what's the REAL story on plugs with a 50-60 shot Nitrous Kit...
1) Do I need special Zex Nitrous Plugs? or
2) Do I need NGK Platinum, 1 step colder plugs? or
3) Do I need NGK Iridium plugs?
4) Do I need $0.99 copper plugs which are 1 step colder?
5) Stock plugs with gap reduced by 0.004 should work?
or
6) None of the above!!

Thanks

THE REAL STORY

Use NGK PFR6B-11 and run the gap at .0038 and you won't have any problems. You can also use copper plugs if you want, but the NGK's work just fine. Ok...
