Hella Yella Fogs warning, now poorly made.
I purchased new 85W Hella Yella Yellowstar fogs to replace a burnt out one I put in about 2 years ago.. They are now made in Korea rather than Germany .. They worked for maybe a day or two.... I thought it was a wiring problem and checked all the wiring.. I tried put the stock fogs in and they work fine.. I decided to measure the resistance of the bulbs circuit and it was way too high... I looked closely at the bulb and you can see the weld from the power wire touching the housing which is the ground... Anyway, just a warning if you have the original Hell Yella bulbs and you need to replace them.. I need to get new Fogs for my car.. I want 85 watt, like the Hella Yella (H3)... White or yellow tint.. Whats out there and where can I purchase them.. Thanks...

Yellow Stars
I noticed the same thing. Check out the response to my email to Ken Beard...
The yellowstars are no longer made in Europe - as of the first of last year, it
was illegal to equip a new car (from the factory) with them and also illegal to
manufacture them (an environmental issue since the process uses cadmium). The
French were the ones who required the yellow lights so they were seen all over
the Continent. With the homogenization of the Continent - the yellow had to go -
by democratic vote I'm sure.
I have been assured by both Hella and the manufacturer in Korea, Dong Jin, they
are of the same quality as those previously manufactured in Europe. The
Yellowstars manufactured by Dong Jin are sold in Europe and elsewhere under a
number of names - World Light, Lucas (go figure), NAPA, ProLight, Luxlite,
PowerParts, Euro Gold, Service Pro, Daewoo, Musso, etc, etc. They even have an
E Code homologation number - E13 37R00 37R03 0052 04 - in case you were
wondering.
Hella has no warranty on bulbs, neither do I and neither does anyone else. That
said, send the bulbs back and I will refund the cost of the bulbs.

Ken,
I just installed one of the new Yellow Stars and compared it with my older
Yellow Star. I am completely disappointed to say the least. There is not
even a hint of yellow in the new bulbs. The new bulbs seem to have been made
in Korea and the packaging from my previous order of Yellow Stars indicated
they were made in Germany. Side by side the bulbs don't match at all. I
would like to return the bulbs and maybe look for a 'brighter white' bulb
instead if a real yellow replacement is not available.
