New Guy in Alabama- Car Buying Dilemma
New Guy in Alabama- Car Buying Dilemma
Hey guys. Finally got my 15 posts out of the way so I thought I'd introduce myself and get a little help. Quick history, I fell in love with Maxima's back in 1999. When I graduated college in 2001, I was finally able to buy a 98 5sp SE. Due to job requirements, I had to sell after 11 short months ang get a 4wd. Now, after 6 lllooonngggg years, I'm in a position to finally get another Maxima and I can't wait.
Here's my dilemma. I would absolutely love to find a low mileage 99 SE 5sp in mint condition, but I've pretty much given up on that. So, I'm trying to decide between either a 20th Anniversary Edition 5sp or a 2002 6sp SE.
What are some pro's and con's? I like the 20th AE because it;s rare and looks cool and different. I love the 2002 because it;s got the 3.5 and the 6sp. I'd like to get some input. Have any of you owned both..which one did you like best? Does anyone think the 20th AE will hold value better? I've found great deals both way so I'm still on the fence. Thanks in advance guys.

Yea, you're probably not going to find a 99 5spd in decent condition, (at least anywhere close). I searched for a long time before I found my AE. It had 68K and 5spd, located in dallas. Its sterling mist with frost cloth, but I wish it were black leather. Couldn't pass it up though. I love the car, but there is a part of me that wishes I could've found an 02 or 03 6spd. I really wish I had the 6spd, but I am plenty happy with the AE. Doesn't burn oil at all, which is a big plus! I had a 96 5spd before, loved that car, and my brother still drives it. Really, it comes down to features. The 02-03s have trip computers, heated steering wheel (with leather package) all on top of what was available with the 01. The 6cd changer in the 02-03s can be finnicky. Just choose whatever you want the most.
Thanks for the reply. Distance really isn't that much of a factor to me. I'm more than willing to take a one-way flight for a good Maxima. I'm still torn though, I absolutely love the looks of the AE, but the larger engine and the 6sp on 2003 models keeps me from committing. I guess what it comes down to will be what I find first. Hmm, or add the body kit to an 02. Of course, then I'd just be a poser.
