Why CAI for S/C ?

the location of the pancake filter on the stock SC setup is right behind the headlight where there is not alot of air flow in the first place.. and the fact that only the top of the filter really gets any good air.
also the operating air temp going thru the blower on the max is around 120° at idle. that's as high as i got it when i was driving driving really hard with when i was NA.
so with the cold air filter taking air from outside the fender lining.. it will help a little. but what would help the most is an Air to Air aftercooler ...

Lets not forget that that pancake filter is small. I doubt it even is rated to flow the CFM that a "stock" pulley SC max needs. At 6psi that would be ~404cfm, at 10 psi it would be ~484cfm. It takes a big cone fliter to flow those numbers. K&N is the only company that can tell you the CFM rating of their filters. My SC CAI filter is a jumbo, 8"L x 5"D, it can flow ~700cfm, enough for a 3.5L @ 14psi ~652cfm

no cai for me.. yet.
what a way to be remembered![laugh](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/laugh.gif)
slipping stock clutch and s/c belt made for a mediocre showing at maxus... the times have come down since then.

So a 7" x 4" should do the trick for 9lbs of boost? A 3.5" flange on the pancake filter would be better but...

ideally, you'd want to jet-hot your CAI... i used mandrel bent piping for turbos to make mine. (3.5inch radius, 7 inch long U bend cut in half) my cone is 9x5 (part number RU1785) from Martel Brothers Racing..
i was also thinking of redoing the piping.... sand blast the insides, chrome the biotch, and thermal wrap it if i dont do the intercooler..
that air to water aftercooler they have on the SI kit is pretty nice... that's another possibility,.. or just do what the AMD guys do.. solder on a ton of heat sinks! hahaha

Yeah. no worries. i'll post em up when iget the piping. it was on back order.
i got em thru Magnumforce.com
the filter is pretty big. unless u move your fluid washer thingie, its not going to fit.. but i dumped mine cuz i have the CF hood and didnt want to dril the nozzles in it ne way....
the U bend should just be enough to have the curve into the fender wall.

Cheston, do you have any pics to accompany your write-up of the SC CAI install? I'm a little unclear about what parts to get.
