Tire Size Question! HELP!
O.k. the maxima I bought at the auction has 215 60 16's. Stock rims.
At highway speeds the steering wheel shakes a little and if you lightly hold the wheel it seem s to track a little kind of like it has a mind of its own. It is annoying so I was going to replace them with the Kumho's stock 215 55 16. My question is : isn't a 215 the width of the tread and the 55 the % of the width. Therefore, a 215 on anysize tire/rim should be the same width as any other 215, correct? The tire shop tells me there's a difference in height AND width on a 215 60 vs a 215 55.. I say the 60 is just taller.. Will replacing the cheaper brand (Winston) 60 with the Kumho 55 help with my shaking steering wheel at all ?? I am aware of the known problems others have reported and wondered if maybe that was my problem and not the tires. I had the tires on it balanced and it helped but didn't rid it completely. Thanks!!

Go to www.tirerack.com for tire size info.
Go here http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html for tire comparasions
Changing tires may or may not fix your vibration problem.
If you alignment is off or if you wheel/tire is not balance, it will continue to cause your problems.
