Removing spray tint off taillights.

Can this be done without damaging the lenses to bad. Using chemicals and what kind of chemicals to use. I have a set but they are tinted.

Paint thinner maybe? Don't try this unless someone else confirms it.

How long was the tint on there? The tint gets very hot easily if its on the brake lights, and with it getting hotter, it will usually bond more, so it will be harder to get off. I wouldnt try thinner, it most likely will dry out the plastic.

Don't use thinner. IT will dull the tails and somewhat melt them. Your best bet is just buy new ones or just scrub the **** out of them with hand cleaner without the grime.

I agree with WhiteSE, I'd say wetsand with 2000, then use some polish. Or you can use paint thinner and polish.

wet sanding is the easiest thing to do if you have about 10-15 minutes of patience. 1500 grit first while watering then 2000 while watering(3-5 mins each grit). then compound wax. then paste wax. then ur done

when i took the spray off my tails, the tint was about a year old so the tint was on there.
i had to start with 400-800-1000 and then polish it........... it was not fun it took about 3 to 4 hours.

Sand them with a DA, then clear coat them. They will look better than new.

If they're off the car, use lacquer thinner on them. the goo will wipe right off.
Don't get the lacquer thinner near your paint though. It'll wipe it right off the car.

i've sanded mine before, 400 grit, then 600 grit, then 1200 grit, buff with rubbing compound and wool pad followed by polishing compound with a foam pad. Apply some wax and they're better then new.
