Would multiple layers of wax help at all? I tried putting on 5 layers of wax to a small peice of metal and after a while it started to look a bit dull. But when I tried scratching it with something sharp, it had a tough time getting to the bare metal. But it still got through

Not to be a downer, but I'm just speaking from experience.

Well crap, if someone has it out for him that bad, just hire a sniper at that point.

Ha...I mean seriously...intentionally scratching a car in a parking lot is easy and can be done discreetly. Breaking the windows or beating the car would definitely draw attention, I would think. Plus, unless he's got a legit stalker who watched him put the cover on or something, they wouldn't even know whose car was under the cover.

I think it's at least worth trying....I'd like to think most college kids seeking a cheap thrill wouldn't go through the trouble and blatantly risk being caught in such a way.

I agree. It is worth trying.

My experience was in my neighborhood. These kids were going up and down the street vandalizing cars all up and down the street; blowing out windows, denting doors and hoods, egging cars, bologna on one car (poor guy, it was his '78 Porsche), slashing tires, etc.

The kid responsible was eventually found however, and after having his rims stolen and his window smashed, his interior somehow became covered in red paint. -1 SC400. We never found out who was responsible for the "hit," but honestly, no one cared to find out anyhow.

I realize that is an extreme, but it's worth mentioning what could happen. People can have it out for other people for no reason whatsoever, except for cheap thrills like you said.

Reminds me of a time I took my car to the body shop and there was a Mercedes in there that had "*****" and "f**k you" written all over it in spray paint. The windows were all smashed and all tires slashed. Again another extreme, but where there is a will, there is a way.

This is true; we cannot lose sight of the fact that some people really are that crazy and evil.

Rent a guard tiger.

Buuuut seriously. Someone else's idea of hiding out in another car and posting watch isn't a terrible idea. Then you can either:

A) Film it and get them in trouble with the school and/or law.
B) Note which vehicle is theirs and give them an eye for an eye.
C) Break their legs.

Haha I don't think he has come to such extremes YET, but I think you guys are probably right, and its probably random kids just messing with cars for kicks... but still, I think installing a shock sensor so that the next time they try something it'll get the attention of the whole parking lot is good payback.

Truth is, the only thing you can do to truly protect your car is full coverage insurance. Alarms can be bypassed, locks can be picked and if they do break in, they will probably steal the camera you set up to catch them with.
I used to be so dang paranoid about my car, but it was pointless worrying. As long as my wife and kid are safe, they can anything else they want. It's just a car. Get full coverage insurance, make a report everytime something happens and let the insurance company take care of it.

Yeah haha ultimately its your life and family that matters not the car........ its just I would never forgive myself if my car got stolen or vandalized when I got a chance to prevent it especially since I put a load of my time and my heart into the car hahaha

the other day someone opened their car door to get out and since it was windy, it hit my car and left a scratch... its not THAT big of a scratch but its noticible so instead of going through insurance, i asked for $50 bucks from the guy and hes supposed to pay me today..

Funny this thread appeared...

Last wednesday, someone vandalized all the vehicles outside the warehouse I work in. We don't have cameras or windows so we can't exactly see what happens outside unless we are actually out there. A few people had things missing from there cars (thats one reason why I NEVER leave anything valuable in my car when I am not in it), while some had key scratches and others had busted tail and headlights. My car was the only that didn't have anything stolen... Someone tried to pry their way into my car by using a crowbar (I think) and when they found they were horrible at doing it, they just smashed my window. I had to pay almosy $200 to get a replacement window the next day, because I vowed to myself to never ever ride around with plastic covering my windows. I'm a bit compulsive when it comes to my car's appearance. Anyway, I guess it would be wise to invest in some sort of motion alarm or window alarm, because the stock alarm only works when someone tries to open the car from the inside while its locked or when someone continuously picks a lock on a door or the trunk... I really wasn't even mad. I had an asvab test to prepare for and a school was weighing (still is) heavily on my mind. I was short $189, but at least I have a window.... I can't win no matter how hard I try! LOL!

Oh so sorry to hear, sounds like you work in a dangerous place! I swear if you ever catch those guys you should beat the hell out of each and everyone of them.

I saw a mod on VQ power where it showed how you can hook up a shock sensor to your stock alarm.

Camera in the car is another A+ idea. I've done that before too with satisfying results.

You might also want to consider getting some comprehensive insurance on your car to cover the gayness going on at your college.

-1 for most college kids.
that is so funny, I also once slept in my car to find out who was messing with it ... nothing happen that night though unfortunatley. One thing you can do is invest in a good alarm and add a proximity sensor like someone mentioned earlier that way it will chirp when someone gets to close to it.

HAHAHA nobody ever touched my car when I was in High School, but one of my friends tried to play a prank on me last year, he Texted me asking me if i had gotten into an accident because my rear bumper was gone LOL! I would have to agreed with member thomatt12 if you dont have a lot of cash for an expensive alarm system, try a car cover... good luck buddy
