Hey i want to know if i can tow my race car (94) civic with my new 2001 max.

Anyone have any real world experience? The trailer is all aluminum light as hell and the civic is 2300 lbs. thanks

I wouldn't do that. I read somewhere that a max should only tow a really light load. maybe one jetski, or a bike on a super light trailer......get a truck for towing cars...

I tow 3 dirtbikes (RM250,KDX200, DR500) with my Maxima, and it works pretty well. That's still well under 2000 lbs though. Slickismax tows boats with his - he said that the Max can tow 3000 lbs.

Yup yup, I pull my jetski and I pull a 18ft openbow Bayliner. It pulls damn good too! My dealership told me that Maxima's could pull 3000lbs...I've actually pulled ~3200lbs before, but not very far. I pulled a 21-22ft cuddy cabin boat on a dual axle trailer with brake attachments, and I don't have the connections! Talk about not being able to stop fast! Tongue weight is what hurts the car. The trailer hitch is mounted to the support beam behind the back axle and the trunk floor. It can only support about 200lbs. That boat had a tongue weight of 300lbs, but I decided to tempt fate since I only had to deliver it about 3 miles from my work. Pulling 3000 lbs can only hurt the car if you try to drive it hard while pulling that much weight. And make sure to break in the drive axles after you start pulling!

Can you imagine...

This thought just popped into my head as i was reading and made me laugh...
Can you imagine making a roadkill against a riced out civic while your maxima is towing another civic? That would be classic!

Still to keep int on topic, I asked my dealer about towing a small u-haul trailer when I needed to move my piano 600 miles, and he said not to do it unless I wanted to trash my tranny (auto)...

Now I think I could have done it, but didn't. Still if you do, definitely get a transmission cooler!

According to the owners manual tow capacity is 1000lbs. That may be on the conservative side of things but I imagine if you tow often and have an auto, get a tranny cooler.

The more important weight you need to be worried about is the tounge weight... too heavy, bye bye rear suspension.

Also if you tow regularly and have an automatic tranny, you might think about a tranny cooler. Good insurance.
