My final V1 vs Passport 8500 comparison
My initial review is at: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....5&pagenumber=1
Many of you with the 8500 have said that you don't want to upgrade to the new V1 unless you have a compelling reason to. Well, after this weekend I am absolutely sold on the V1 and will be selling the 8500. I drove 200 miles on Friday and ran into 6-8 cops with radar on the road.
In every instance, the V1 picked up the cop quicker than the 8500. There were 3 times when the V1 gave me a quick warning of the upcoming cop (K and Ka) with the 8500 doing nothing! Also, I ran into a cop on a bridge with Laser, V1 went off and the 8500 did not. Finally, the arrows and bogey counter are amazing. I picked up 2 bogeys and as I went by the 1st, the arrow still blinked foward with the signal increasing, and sure enough, there was another cop 1/2 mile ahead. Passport actually stopped beeping for a while after the 1st cop. My friend in the car with me was amazed.
I could go on, but you get the point. In my initial review, I was concerned with the Ka performance of the V1 after reading the reviews online and now after this weekend, I am convinced that the V1 is superior in every band, hands down. Will it make a difference? V1 will pick up instant-on from a distance better than the 8500, so you have time to slow down, so YES!!!

There was so much press over the last year about how the V1 was outdated and that the passport 8500 and the bel 980 were more practical detectors for the cost, but in recent weeks I have heard nothing but positive things about the V1. I am so confused! I guess I need to do more research before making a purchase. Thanks for the review Akhim. out.
