Q....Thermostat issue on 95 max....
Hi all, since it has been quite cool in the NE I have been using the heat quite often. Lately, when I turn the heat on, the temp gauge drops considerably and does not return to normal (middle of gauge) until I turn the heat off. My friend thinks its the Thermostat, I believe he is right. Can this be changed by a relative novice and where is it anyway. (I installed my tranny cooler myself in the summmer). any thoughts, opinions.....Otherwise I have to go to the dreaded Kings Nissan here in Brooklyn. All they do is complain about the aftermarket stuff on the car.
Sorry I did not post this in the 4th Gen forum, but it was down.

I'm pretty sure that it can be changed easily. It will require draining the coolant, though, so you might as well plan on a radiator flush and fill. DBM posted the instructions for changing the thermostat a year ago. See if you can find it with a search, or it might be in one of the stickies on the 4th-gen board. Mine went bad on Thanksgiving morning last year.

Barry..it should be fairly striaght forward. Drain the radiator. Follow the lower radiator hose towards the engine. Where the hose ends there is a water neck. The themostat should be inside of it. The water neck is held by with three bolts. Fill the radiator back with 50/50 mixture. If you do pay someone to do it, it should not cost more than 1 hour labor.
