Polishing or Chrome dipping rims.

Hey guys, does anyone know roughly what it would cost me to get my rims polished/chrome dipped? Or is this DIY material, and if so how much would it cost for whatever materials I'd need? Anyone know? If so any info on it would be appreciated!

WELL a friend of mine said it would cost like 400$for my 17s
so I am assuming that price is pretty universal?!

Re: Polishing or Chrome dipping rims.

Well, polishing and chrome plating are two completely different processes. Firstly, you can polish almost any piece of metal by yourself, if you have a lot of time, some strength, and different grits of sandpaper. Or, you can polish metal on a grinding wheel, which is much quicker, and less painless. You can get a great look from polishing, however, it just won't look the same as chrome plating. Chroming a piece of material requires dipping it into an electrically charged chrome solution. This charged solution allows itself to electrically adhere to the metal. And BINGO, you have a chromed piece of metal. To have a shop polish a set of wheels, it usually costs about a hundred per wheel, chroming a set of wheels might double in price....
If anyone can add, or correct anything I've said to allow for a more complete, and precise answer on chroming metal...feel free to help out....

Sweet, I was just making sure this was a good hookup on price. My friend said his dad will chrome dip half of each of my wheels (the only half you can see) for $200. His dad works at a detailing shop.

Hells yeah chrome for 200.00 yes do jump on that. The local shops here in New Orleans charge $600.00 to chrome your wheels out and is like a 6 week turn around as well. I know for a fact when I was in California they wanted to charge me $600.00 as well. That was back in 1996.

Removing or covering chrome from rims

Is it possible to do this myself? I live in a rural area and dont have access to a shop where this is possible.

Congrats, you've resurrected by far the oldest thread I've seen resurrected in my short time on the org.

To answer your question, if you want to cover up chrome, just sand it and spray paint + clear coat.
